Ben raises a good point. It's not the pumps that are making the money, it's the oil companies. Also, here in North America, gas has never hit as high as it has in Europe. Now,it just so happens it is.
The long and short is that you can expect gas to continue increasing in cost until they find a cost efficient fuel alternative.

Okay I hear the arguements about this loud and clear.
Just wondering why the news reported last night why Utah was the 4th highest in gas prices in the Nation.
The only answer I can come up with is I guess it's because we are our on supplier and can charge what we want?

Correct...without outside competition or alternative energy source, they will continue to do so. Cali is itself does not receive any OPEC oil and still, we drill locally, import from Mexico and Alaska, and sell it cheaper to Arizona than our ownselves.
Utah is sitting on the world's largest known reserves [along with five other states and Canada]. LOL

LOL, I'm back home again and prices have dropped another twenty cents since I've been gone. I'm only home on weekends nowadays (work). Should be interesting to see what prices are down to next weekend.

Noticed yesterday that gas is now as low as $3.95/gallon in Utah.

Currently, the real worth of gasoline resides around 1.67 dollar per gallon. When you see a 601 percent gain since 2001, there is something wrong. You have to remember also, todays pricing, every dollar drop should be equaling to a 3-cents per gallon drop at the pump. However, that is not the case. Quick to rise and slow to drop. For me, this good in a sense since it will drive the consumer to elect for the upcoming electrical vehicle and get away from the oil corporate monopoly. On the other side, the cause and effect shows...most of those who created this artificial market cannot even get a temple recommend at this point.
Beside that, Utah imports no oil at all and pretty much a self-sustaining state when it comes to energy. Call it BLACK GOLD....
Put it on GREED.

According to those I know that work at the Chevron refinery in No. Salt Lake...oil they refine comes from Canada. Also Citgo fuel comes from oil in Venezuela.

While traveling to Stake Conference today, I noticed several stations down to $3.40's.
