I find efforts at portraying Russian and the USA as moral equivalents a bit much, however. Perhaps, I'm biased...but lets not forget that Putin is an ex-KGB chief, and still seems to maintain Soviet-era beliefs about Russia's need for a security buffer.

To be fair, Chaplain, Bush Senior was head of the CIA for a long time and it's not like the CIA's hands are clean(I can recall accusations of torture, of testing LSD on their own people, of breaking in to the offices of opposing political parties to steal information and also of the CIA testing chemicals on Canadian citizens. You might not know that last part, but it was pretty famous up here in the 60s.)
Make no mistake - Putin is a bad guy. He's a genius, but he's a bad guy. He has managed to keep power in a country where nobody in the past fourty years has kept power for more than a few years. The US pushed the envelope on this and Russia called their bluff. Unless the US is willing to go to war with Russia, Russia now has carte blanche to bully and strong arm every NATO ally in the region. Mark my words - Ukraine is next. I don't know if he will full on invade, but he will strong arm them to stop allying with the US. Russia has just proven they can do anything to a country regardless of their allies.
