Georgian president should be tried for crimes against humanity.
Rumor is that the Russians are trying to find out where Georgia's presdient is located, capture him and try him for crimes against humanity. Seems like the Russians may just have the force to do just that.
If the guy did order the destruction of an ethnic Russian village just inside the borders of Georgia then he deserves what he gets. The guy also probably thought the US or EU would come to his rescue (notice the EU flag behind him as he addresses the media -- English? Georgia is not a member of the EU) but that just isn't going to happen. The US is not going to antagonize Russia -- Bush is too professional to do something that stupid and Russia and China can veto any legislation that would come into the UN Security Council anyway.
I only hope that the several black soldiers reportedly killed by Russian forces were not US soldiers or even US mercenaries working for the Georgians. That would not make the US look very good in the world -- condemning Iran for possibly, maybe, sort of assisting terrorists in Iraq but then assisting a terrorist government in Georgia.
Again, we can pray these hostilities end soon and that these two Christian nations can end the bloodshed.
Watch video here of interview with American witness to Georgian military commiting genocide:
RussiaToday : News : American says U.S. and Georgia to answer for violence in South Ossetia

This should tell you never to rely on rumor as an indication of true.
I’ve done a number of searches and discovered he is not in hiding whatsoever. In fact, Saakashvili went on CNN’s Wolf Blitzers’ show the other day, and French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner has had a meeting with Saakashvili.
Saakashvili is also in negotiations to stop the military actions. He is not missing.

Georgia is a US ally who has courted admission to NATO for years, and was promised it would eventually happen. This has infuriated Russia, thus its hostilities that, because of its overreaction, have gone on to kill civilians in this conflict.

It already is. It has called for Russia to stop its bombings and an immediate halt to the fighting, accusing Russia of using the issue to bomb other regions in Georgia.
Additionally: U.S. to present U.N. resolution condemning Russia: WASHINGTON: The United States will offer a U.N. Security Council resolution later on Sunday condemning Russian military action against Georgia as unacceptable, a U.S. spokesman said. The spokesman told Reuters: “We will offer a resolution today that makes clear that the Russian actions in Georgia are unacceptable to the international community.” (A later story indicates the parties were not able to come to agreement.)

Sort of how Bush condemned Iraq for possibly, maybe, sort of having WMDs, but then, despite numerous experts’ warnings, went in and massacred tens of thousands of innocent people, but found no WMDs. Yeah, I can see how that would be a problem.
I could find nothing about black soldiers whatsoever. I can only wonder if you have “soldiers” confused with “sea,” I.e., the Black Sea, where the Russians did bomb Georgian soldiers.
But even if this were true, I still could not find anything about Russia killing any specific solders, black or otherwise.

Christian nation’s”?
It would not matter if every single person living in Russia is a Christian--you would never acknowledge Russia’s, or Putin’s continued corruption, including a return to a Soviet-like government, unless you saw the missiles coming.
Having said all of this, Georgia’s military actions are inexcusable, in that it was in the middle of a cease fire, which it ignored. I think that is despicable.

A rather meaningless gesture considering that China and Russia will merely veto it. There will be no US sanctions on Russia and no real punishments, nor should there be. The EU should also be careful since Russia can merely start selling its energy resources to China.
As for the Georgian president, I guess he is learning that you don't kick a bear in the groin and run behind the big guys and expect them to fight the bear for you. Russia has the capability to eradicate the Georgian military, plain and simple.
Also, if the original news reports of Georgia leveling civilian areas are credible, and reports of snipers taking aim at civilians, then Russia is as justified going into Georgia as General Pershing was in going into Mexico to try to track down and punish Pancho Villa.

Russia’s Daily Online newspaper, Kommersant, also reported the presence of foreign mercenaries:Authorities in the unrecognized republic of South Ossetia claim that dark-skinned mercenaries took part in the attack on Tskhinvali, reports RIA Novosti, citing representative of the South Ossetian president in Russia Dmitry Medoev. He said there were bodies of many Georgian soldiers on the streets on Tskhinvali. “There were blacks among the dead, who were probably either mercenaries or instructors in the Georgian armed forces,” Medoev said.
South Ossetian President Eduard Kokoity had said earlier that mercenaries were fighting with the Georgian forces. That information has not been confirmed in Tbilisi.
Last month, the United States, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Ukraine conducted Immediate Response 2008, a joint training exercise said to be in “spirit of the NATO Partnership for Peace program,” according to Blackanthem Military News. Immediate Response 2008 was held at the Vaziani Military Base in Georgia.
In another report, a woman interviewed by Russia Today in Tsknivali, South Ossetia, talked about the presence of Georgian troops with American insignias. “There are lots of bodies over there, a lot of people have been killed, mostly Ossetians, but also Georgians, they had American emblems on their forearms and they were in black uniforms,” she said.
Black uniforms are a trademark of Blackwater and DynCorp mercenaries (see Chris Hedges, America’s Holy Warriors). DynCorp’s presence in Eastern Europe is well documented, particularly in occupied Bosnia where it engaged in sex-trafficking and prostitution.
In a Friday press conference, Chairman of Russia’s State Duma Security Committee Vladimir Vasilyev said without U.S. aid, Tbilisi would have been unable to start military operation in South Ossetia. “The further the situation unfolds, the more the world will understand that Georgia would never be able to do all this without America,” said Vasilyev. “In essence, the Americans have prepared the force, which destroys everything in South Ossetia, attacks civilians and hospitals.”
It is entirely feasible the U.S. has “prepared the force” with mercenaries as well.

Georgian forces have been trained by 'American forces' since 2002 apparently. Russia would take decisive action against a proAmerican state starting hostilities near it's borders, one would think.
You wouldn't put it past companies like Blackwater to commit such acts, one only has to search youtube to see the appalling attitudes of the mercenaries in Iraq.

I didn't think you were gullible enough to believe KGB propaganda. Russians have long committed genocide in the region and are the ones bombing innocent civilians and killing them.
I think you need to look a bit more into this and realize that a)Russia provoked this and b) Russia had been planning this for quite some time.

The Russians have been commiting genocide in the region? Okay, could you provide sources? Yes, there have been hostilities for years but genocide? Here's a good article (long) but seems to not take sides too much:
Another Side of the Georgian-Russian Conflict - by Christopher Deliso
And how could Russia be provoking the latest actions? The Georgian government thought that they could attack villages (and kill scores of innocent civilians) in the region and that the EU and US would come and fight their fight for them. Surprise! The US has already ruled out any "punishments" aimed at Russia (it's already been noted by our government that we need Russia's help too much in other vital issues to get into any spats over this) and the EU certainly doesn't want its oil and gas sold to the Chinese rather than the Europeans.

I have known too many people who have served in the US military who have indicated some of the dirty stuff the government of the US does. I once asked a guy (who would have been in "the know") if the US government really had assisted in the importation of drugs into the US -- he just gave me "that look" and said he would not answer that. In other cases during the Cold War we hid nuclear weapons in "neutral nations" which violated treaties with the USSR. That all came out a few years later after the USSR fell.
So I would not doubt the Russians caught some "black ops" with their pants down in Georgia and they didn't survive. Who knows if they were US citizens working for the CIA or military, mercenaries or were connected to other governments but Russia's horrendous response in this conflict may be their attempt to force the Georgian's to oust their government and also clean out any foreign advisors involved in these attacks -- that Georgia started!!!!

The latest episode began with the artillery shelling of Georgian villages by South Ossettian separatists. Georgian troops entered South Ossetia to deal with the attacks. Russia used that as a pretext for an invasion of South Ossetia. They just happened to have soliders, tanks, and ships already in position before the shelling started so they could respond very quickly to the Georgian incursion.
Again, it's popular to be anti-American and anti-war these days, but don't let either of those two conditions keep you from seeing the truth.

It's Chechnya. Actually, I'm going to support the original poster on this, despite the fact that I almost never agree with anything Fiannan says.
Do you remember when North Korea was part of the Axis of Evil? Do you remember when Putin said, 'If you invade North Korea, we will go to war with you'? Have you heard anything since then on this part of the 'axis of evil'?
Georgia is an American ally. The unknown black ops soldiers will be American. I know it, you know it, the Russians know it. However, they weren't carrying ID and they will never be identified.
Russia will defeat Georgia, the US will not intervene, and Russia will crush all opposition under its boot because it wants to show that only it can protect the former soviet states. Specifically, this is a message for Ukraine that it has no allies.
No, I don't like it, but Russia has the upper hand on this.
