Well in a way it is the point of this topic. You asked how Obama's win would affect us. I would have to agree with JD. I see the price of gas reversing to going on the upslide instead of the downslide we have enjoyed the last couple of months.

Obama has two strengths that really cater to a promising future. First, he listens very well. You really ought to read his books and review some of the legislation he's really wanted to make happen. He has a knack for getting opposing sides together, bringing them to agreement on a common goal, and then helping them come to some kind of an agreement that brings both sides closer to that goal. Quite simply, the legislative branch is the wrong place for this man. He belongs in an executive role trying to hammer out these deal.

His second strength is his oratory skills. The man knows how to write and he knows how to appeal to others. You can see this in the volunteer force that he inspired, which seems to be of record size. You don't make that happen without inspiring people. And that kind of volunteer force is very much a grassroots change. The man convinced people that they could change their own lives. He'll continue to do that as president.

My last comment: those of you who are afraid he will break campaign promises should actually be praying that he'll break campaign promises. If he does any promise breaking, he'll break toward the middle. He does not like a divided America, and a 51% vs 49% vote or whatever this election turned out to be does not meet his standard of unity.

You're right, Pam and John Doe, of course. Still I was looking for the specific policies that won people over and causing their elation and woo-hoos. I mean, I like the guy. He's likable. He served the community for some time and that's a noble deed. And he is an inspiring orator who campaigned brilliantly. I should have been more specific in my initial post. I'm not knocking President Elect Obama at all and I hope I was very clear about it. As a conservative independent, I just want to understand better the democratic/liberal mind. I patiently wait.

Pale, it won't cost you more in taxes unless you make more than 250K or was that 200K or was it 150K or was it 42K. I think we will see a tax increase for those making 50K or more. I think that there will be govt. checks to those who make less than 50K even if they pay no taxes. We, the govt, will be paying checks to people who pay no taxes. Supplement their income. Incentive to make less to get the tax refund.

An Obama presidency will cost me more in taxes and hamper my small business.

I hope Obama completely cuts hard toward a quick pull of the plug on the occupation of Iraq. If we can get the heck out of there, we can restore peace to the region and get some serious ease for our national spending troubles. I just hope the dems don't blow all the possible savings on their socialist agenda.

I agree the war needs to end, but it needs to end resolved. As for spending, we already know there will be a lot of spending, up to one trillion to be exact, during his term (to afford his tax credit policies) that would put the budget deficit at $520 billion by 2013 compared to the presently projected deficit of $147 billion. But alas, he needs to afford all the tax cuts and credits so indeed we will all likely see some kind of boon, but at the expense of our children's future. He never promised to balance the budget.

Most of those I have contacted in the military, see it is a return to a Clinton era...

Neither candidate could have done what they promised. They say what they know we want to hear. They have to, unfortunately. I guess because the public can't stand to hear the truth.

There is no money for national health care. All the problems that HELPED get Obama elected, now become HIS problems.
