If you are gonna get into politics and play with the big boys you gotta be tough. I get that her family has taken hits. I get that people are inspecting every corner of her professional life. But I don't understand the move to quit. Half the time, I think she sets herself up for all the scrutiny by the things she says. Seems to me she needs to learn how to quietly fly under the radar.

I personally don't think this decision has much to do with what is or isn't best of Alaska. I hated her basketball analogy. Yeah a good player passes the ball, but does the team captain quit the team and take his water bottle home in a huff?

In any case, I think she just committed political suicide. I thought the Republicans were idiots to nominate her in the first place. She hadn't yet proven herself. It was too soon if anything. And now how could anyone trust her. When people attack her, she loses focus. And when the game is too threatening, she packs up and goes home.

Had she said that she was doing this for the best interest of her family and marriage, I would have a lot more respect for her. Kinda felt like she was twisting and turning all the facts to try to make herself look like the noble servant. Don't think it worked.

Here's an interesting article suggesting Palin won't be back before 2016. Some insightful points in there, including the following note about the consequences of running against President Obama in 2012:

Quote:
If she were to show interest in a 2012 run, she could depend on Obama's crew doing everything possible to drag her down -- and going through her state to do it.

Chicago would put Alaska through the grinder, a very easy thing to accomplish from Washington. In fact, it could be argued that this campaign has already begun, with the slow death-by-cuts action against the National Missile Defense center at Fort Greeley. Even as the ballistic missile threat from North Korea and Iran grows more urgent, Obama is dismantling the sole serious defense against it. (Am I implying that O would jeopardize the country's safety to assure his political career? Well, what do you think?) In a real sense, Palin's resignation at this time can be viewed as yet another service to her state.

I wonder if these brothers and sisters had problems in the pre-mortal life in seeking office to prove themselves before others?

I made it known one of my daughter, who PB states she will run for office when the laws of the land become corrupted, she needs to be tough now in preparing her family for those slobbering fools who believe in attacking one home life in proving the other candidate is the one for that office.

I am very conservative in my politics (I say proudly), But never gave much thought to Miss Palin.

I know that she is also very conservative and maybe I should have learned more about her. I just did not care what the politics of some one running for Vice President. But I found and still find it interesting how so many liberals care about what she does, how she dress, her family and many other points of interest, in her life.

I wonder what would have happened if Liberals and the press would have spent as much time looking into what it means to be a community organizer?

Anyway, it seems a good idea, to me, to focus on those who are in control, and maybe even focus on what they are trying to do good or bad for the country, instead of how fashion safe someone's glasses are.

The glasses thing is kind of a private joke between me and my lovely Sister, Elphaba.

I couldn't agree more. While I'll concede that the liberal media has often been unreasonable in its scrutiny of her and her family, such scrutiny is, unfortunately, a normal part of political life in this country. If you can't handle a tough interview with Katie Couric or the comedic jabs of people like Tina Fey, then how can you be expected to face the much more serious challenges involved with running the country? Her sensitivity and victim mentality speak volumes about her. These are not qualities that should be considered admirable in a leader.

Godless, you made a good point. Only I can add to your post, as consumers, we allowed our media to make these attacks without warrant. Chalk it up to sensationalism is more important than truth/family protection and partly blames the old days of CBS, when the three channel networks controlled the airwave.

For the masses, many believe what constitute a greater leader is charisma and being a great orator. Any past leaders can you name filled the bill then became a dictator afterwards? Or someone who was ousted from the throne on high? Each of them had these primary skills set to fool the masses for their own gain. I can attest from the past great leaders whom are considered Celestial level beings, three dispensational prophets who suffered from speech impairment and unable to write clearly. Each of them were given another person who could be there scribe or spokes person.

I think we're underestimating the family thing.

Since she was elected, she has a new special-needs child, a son in the middle of a war zone, a daughter whose relationship just failed and who is now raising a daughter on her own, and fourteen-year-old who was recently labeled a whore on national television.

I'd be quitting, too.

Not sure she is quitting.

Just does not want to go "Politics as usual".

This has always been a theme with her.

We have several politicians who started out in office of a
year or two and then
went into campaign mode chasing another office.

Using the paycheck for their present job to help finance
their campaign for president or what ever.

Don't remember the media pointing out one certain senator
deserting Illinois to pursue his election.

And he did it while on the payroll

And an earlier Governor who also won the presidency

This is the kind of behavior she disdains.

The State of Alaska is not abandoned.

Some politicians think if is all about them.

No one can do it like they can they seem to think.

Sarah Palin has faith in her lieutenant Govenor.

He believes much like she does, she thinks.

Soooo,. . .
