Don't be so condescending, that is just my point, we don't need to be bullied, or threatened that if we don't conform we may be in danger. That was a typical arrogant American remark! This is only to you Just A Geek, cos most Americans I know aren't like you! What perks are you talking about?

What do you mean if he were white! He wouldn't have got in if he were white. 96 to 97% of African-Americans polled in this election voted for Obama. Never in the history of this country has ANY candidate ever had such overwhelming numbers from any group. White, Black, Hispanic, Asian or other. If that’s not prejudice, I don’t know what is.

It has nothing to do with his skin colour. Don't play the racist game ADoyle. Too many people make this sensitive because he is black. He won because he was black(because all the minority races combined voted). That is racist in itself. Since when did anyone win because they were white? Don't give me that!

BUT, In 1935, America signed the Tydings-McDuffie Act in Washington DC that outlined a plan for Philippine Independence! UNHEARD OF! How can that be? A world power that actually wants to GIVE independence??? Since WHEN has it happened? Before that time, you're either strong, or a land nobody wants, or you get colonized! The Philippines was under Spanish oppression for THREE CENTURIES!

AMERICA GAVE EVERY COUNTRY THE COURAGE TO SAY, "You big bad wolf, stay away from my door!". UNTIL TODAY. AMERICA is the reason little teenie countries like Georgia can remain autonomous. AND THE REASON WHY NEW ZEALAND can say, "Stay away from our business".

I LOVE AMERICA. I LOVE WHAT SHE STANDS FOR. IT IS THE BEACON OF HOPE, THE LAND OF THE FREE, THE HOME OF THE PROPHETS OF THESE LATTER-DAYS.

Now, Americans - keep it that way!
Sorry, I'm a history major and am just going to correct some points...cus I'm a nitpicker, not because I disagree with the principle of what you were saying. Whatever.

In 1898, technically Britain was the main world power. This was Britain right after a little time known as "The Victorian Age," it was at the height of its power, and far more powerful than Spain. So....technically Spain ruled ''the world'' after which the British became more powerful, not the other way around as you originally stated.

And.....Britain started giving independence to its colonies way before 1935....it wasn't that unheard of. In 1867 it gave domestic independence to Canadians, and independence with its foreign policy to all its former colonies in 1924 under the Statute of Westminster. It was more expensive to maintain the colonies than it was to grant them independence. So yes....they gave them independence. Newfoundland is one of the few exceptions where they returned to colonial status at their own insistence to alleviate the debt they gained during the Great Depression.

The threat would carry no force whatsoever unless you believed that a) we would make good on it, and b) there would be real consequences for our making good on it. And in this case, the "threat" isn't even a threat of force against you--it's just a general hint that New Zealand won't be able to get as much from the US as it hitherto has.

It was your government that presumably made the decision to fall in line (or not) based on what it stood to lose by not conforming to America's demands--and your media outlets that would have tracked the decision-making process. So, you tell me.

I'm sorry you find the truth so insulting. If you don't like it, contact your representatives and change it. We Yanks won't mind. Really.
