I told you that there were people from all walks of life wanting to immigrate into the U.S. while people are just focusing on one country.

What the heck are you on about Annabell? Didn't you even read the article? Or did the Chinese Government requiring a License to Reincarnate completely escape you?

Because of this legislation, the Chinese Government will get to pick the next Dalai Lama, not the Tibetan Monks, so in effect, there will be 2 Dalai Lamas, the State imposed one, and the real one. As a result, the real one may not even be born in Chinese controlled Tibet, but in one of the many places that Tibetans have moved to seek refuge from opression, America and the UK included.

Aw, lighten up. I got Annabelli's joke. Being reincarnated within the confines of the United States is a sly way of avoiding immigration laws.

I never really considered that the reincarnated being had a choice as to his new body or location of where he would be (re)born. I thought that was dependent on the level of perfection one attained in the previous physical life. But if you are the Dalai Lama, I suppose you do.

Did anyone else notice the link to the "Mormons: Is Polygamy in Afterlife OK?" article on the page?

That was an interesting read.

I'm responding to Frank's post, which for some reason I can't "reply" to.

When Elizabeth Smart was found I was on a Yahoo Board where the topic was polygamy. I got into a discussion with a young man who was a new convert. I kept explaining that Mormons did still practice a form of plural marriage as defined by its doctrine when a man was married/sealed to a second wife in the temple.

He was adamant that I was wrong, and kept pasting President Hinckley's quote: "I wish to state categorically that this church has nothing whatever to do with those practicing polygamy."

I tried to explain that President Hinckley was referring to the FLDS, but he wouldn't believe me. Finally I told him to ask his bishop about it. He did, and he wrote to me a few days later. He admitted I was right, but then said it didn't affect his testimony. I wrote back that I was glad, and that I hadn't thought it would.

This is one issue I think it's a bit disengenuous to say "nothing whatever" to do with those practicing polygamy. Insiders know President Hinckley means the fundamentalists. Outsiders, especially investigators, don't.

I think something should be added, such as "Plural marriage is still part of our doctrine, as defined in our canon, but it has nothing to do with polygamy practiced on this earth," or something to that effect. I realize that would put many people off, but I don't think it would be that many, and it would be more forthcoming. In fact, it would probably elicit a few phone calls asking for clarification, and then the missionaries could take it from there!
