I have continued with the missionaries.

Unfortunately, there was an incident at the ward with my son and my son was injured by another child...actually, he was assaulted. Unprovoked completely. My son required medical attention.

Everyone has apologized and taken responsibility. The church is handling it very well. They are taking care of the medical bills that insurance has not covered.

But my son feels very uncomfortable returning. I can't say I blame him. I'm uncomfortable with this child also. I don't want to return and cause a rift in the church. On the oher hand, I don't want my kids near a violent child either.

I really don't want to post more on a public forum. If you'd like to PM me, that is fine.

I did want to update you because so many of you were very nice to me and took time out of your day to answer my questions.

I'm still thinking things over...

Quick Question in Alma

So I was reading my scriptures the other day and I came across a passage that confused me a little. Maybe I'm not reading it right, but it's not making sense to me.

Alma 11:38-39
38 Now Zeezrom saith again unto him: Is the Son of God the very Eternal Father?
39 And Amulek said unto him: Yea, he is the very Eternal Father of heaven and of earth, and all things which in them are; he is the beginning of the end, the first and the last

Maybe someone can clear this up for me because it seems a little more Trinity-esque than Godhead-esque the way I see it?

Thanks! :)

LDS Take on Isaiah 44:6

I was wondering what the LDS church's take on Bible verses such as Isaiah 44:6 which states:

Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; *I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God. *

I have been under the impression as discussing things on here the last few days that Heavenly Father is a God, Jesus Christ is a God, The Holy Spirit is a God and, even debatably (is that even a word? lol) Heavenly Father's "wife" is a god as well...How does all of this reconcile with Isa 44:6?

Hey everybody,

I'm having a little difficulty understanding the process after our death here on earth. The way I understand it, and please correct me if I'm wrong in any way, is that we die and are then given the chance to hear the Gospel if we haven't already.

After that, according to our works (and I'm assuming relationship with Christ), we go to one of three Heavens, correct?

Well I've heard that y'all believe that if we are good enough, we can achieve Godness and become Gods of our own planet. When exactly does that occur? Also please could you cite your sources from the Bible, BofM, D&C, or The Pearl of Great Price. I'm just trying to get this all straight because it seems like a pretty big thing to understand correctly. :) Thanks!

Role-playing & Virtual Worlds

What is your opinion on role-playing and virtual worlds? How does the Mormon Church view it? Are there official guidelines for those that participate in such activities? Or is it one of those things where it's left for members to use their own good judgment, like, what husband and wife do in the privacy of their own bedroom? I've heard different things from different people on this.

Anyway, what brought this line of thought up was Second Life. It's a virtual world where you vicariously live through a pixelated character, being and doing, whatever you want. There are no limits, only those that you set. After hearing about this virtual world from people, I decided to register and see what all the hype was about. In short, I was very disappointed. I actually removed the program from my computer the same day that I installed it. But during my short visit there, I was surprised to find several LDS communities. One location, even having a replica of the Salt Lake Temple. I had chatted to a couple people there and apparently they even hold church activities! Yes, it was very interesting.. Would it be safe to say that a virtual life is only as dangerous as you allow yourself to stray from good morals and the Gospel?

How about role-playing? Video-games that allow you to command the destiny of a protagonist, where depending on your choices and actions, determines the path of good or evil? I'm actually a big fan of RPGs and I've played many hours through this very kind of scenario. I've even played the bad-guy a few times.. =/

According to LDS doctrine, is Heavenly Father the First God? Jesus Christ, as well as all of us, are children of His but is there a God above Heavenly Father? I'm sure our finite brains can't truly comprehend this but I'm trying to get it straight as I possibly can...Since Jesus Christ is God and attained it, I'm assuming that Heavenly Father became a God in the same such manner? If so, did Heavenly Father have a Father as well? It's almost like a spirit genealogy LOL Well hopefully y'all get what I'm talking about. Any answers on this would be greatly appreciated.

As I learn more about the church, it seems that the only Bible that the LDS church relies on is the KJV Bible and believes that all others are corrupted...If I'm wrong on any of this, please tell me.

Is there any proof of this? Also if you look in the KJV, there are certain verses that are inaccurate such as ones that use the word "unicorn" but, in later translations, changed the word to a more accurate meaning of oxen or something of that variant. Some verses on the usage of "unicorn" are Psalm 92:10, Numbers 23:22, 24:8, Job 39:9-10, etc.

Any help on the church's view of KJV-onlyism would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey everybody,

I am Christian and have been looking into the LDS church lately...I have been reading the BOM online and also talking to an online missionary over at mormon.org as well. I was wondering if there is a way to receive a hard copy of the Book of Mormon without missionaries delivering it to you; like receiving it by mail?

For anybody out there that are converts, I'm sure you know what I'm going through...Going from a Baptist church and leaning now towards the LDS church is a big change and not sure how my family would take it if I converted.

But I'm getting wayyyy ahead of myself lol Back to my original question...If anybody can help, that would be greatly appreciated. God bless.

This may seem strange, but the reason I first began to investing the LDS church is because a lot of the blogs I read are written by members and I was not understanding a lot of the church-related terminology. Now that I am fairly well-versed I understand most of what I am reading.

I know that in order to attend the temple one must obtain a temple recommend. I also know that there are a number of things one can do to lose a temple recommend. On one of the blogs I read, the writer mentions that she and her husband are no longer worthy to attend the temple (although does not explain why) but that they are trying very hard to get back. However, she has posted many recent pictures of herself in which you can tell she is not wearing garments because she is wearing immodest clothing. So my question is, when you lose your temple recommend do you also have to stop wearing garments? If this is too much information to divulge, I completely understand. I was just curious because as I understood it, you make covenants in the temple involving wearing the sacred garments and I figured that if you were trying to get back to the temple you would be trying to keep those covenants. However, I thought that perhaps losing a temple recommend makes one unworthy of wearing the garments.

I am just curious and I completely understand if this is a matter too sacred to discuss. As someone who grew up outside the church I am not entirely certain which topics are off-limits. I definitely don't mean to offend anyone at all.
