Hi All,
I have served a mission in the wonderful Greece Athens Mission in the '99. Almost at the end of my mission I met a wonderful woman and thinking about her I don't have any doubts: she was my friend on earth. She was from a country were she never had heard about religion or family. When she attended the church for the first time in Thessaloniki she was really stroke about the idea of the family we were explaining her. After a couple of months she left to go to the USA. I heard only once from that time. It was a wedding invitation: she was baptized and was marrying in Portland Temple. I tried to keep in contact with her again without success. When I think about her my heart is still full of joy. And what about your friend on earth? Have already found it?

So I guess the question is since I am not a member of the LDS faith is why do young men go on missions? And how do they get "called" to the mission field or is this something they just want to do? What do you do with your time in the mission field?

To peacoat or not to peacoat

Ok, since I'll be in CT it's going to be a little chilly -- I need opinions.

My dad thinks a peacoat will be too faddish for the mission field, but, when I'm wearing a suit jacket and missionary clothing underneath I think it looks like a very simple coat and it'll be warm to boot cause it's wool. this is what I'm looking at:

Too stylish? or would this work?

There is a new group at yahoo, called GHM (Germany Hamburg Mission). Here is the link:

LDS_GHM : LDS GHM (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LDS_GHM/)

It is a group for all returned missionaries, friends and allies of this Mission or another Mission in Germany.
I served in that mission (1979 to 1980) and it was a huge experience for me. So, if you are interested in, join this group.

Just a few questions that have been going through my head for a couple of days.

What advice would you give to a person who is planning on serving a mission?
What one thing did you feel you lacked going into the mission field?
Serving a mission with your spouse, will you or have you done it? Is it a different experience?
