I am at the enough is enough stage.............................NEED HELP...TECH SUPPORT.......
I already called Sorbent Systems Tech Support talk about NO HELP. I have been trying to vacuum seal our food but every single time we do a session I have over 25% bag Failure. I have gone thru 20 vacuum bags a total waste not to mention 40 oxygen absorbers.
Spoke to tech support night befiore last said to raise the heat level from 3 to 5 and keep the food as close to the bag as poss. Did this and every bag seemed fine. Checked my food yesterday morning every single 10x16 with 3 lbs of pasta failed, dehydrated broccoli failed, hash brown potatoes failed.
Did more vacuum sealing last night 50% of our bags failed. Every single hash brown potatoes, and pasta. I HATE THIS MACHINE!

:.bullhorn::.bullhorn:

I have been preparing a 20 acrea homestead for the past 10 years. It is not easy, I learned a lot about what not to do, than what to do. The books in the book store are just to basic and written by people who have never gone out and lived this way.
I am a vietnam Veteran and decided 10 years ago that it was time to move out of society and begin to build a place of refudge. We have done it. Built a 6 bedroom home, spring for our water, green house, solar etc. Like I said its not easy and not for the faint harted. It is a lot of dedication. I would love to show you how and let you pick my brain on what we learned. If you are in the area of Southern Utah, north of Enterprise.. I would love to have you come up and visit. I have four kids and a wife who would love to share our lives with you.... hillbilly_dave503 at yahoo.... I will send you pictures and help you get out of the city when in the next year or so, you must get out or parish.

Solar Ovens

I have read about solar ovens and I know how they work. Here in California we are blessed with an abundance of sunshine (or in July-Sept, one could say cursed, when the temp reaches 110 degrees and the humidity is right up there also)

Has anyone had first hand experience using them? I am looking for recommendations on size, brands, features, costs, etc.

Home made v. store bought? I always think food tastes better when made with something free, but what about efficiency of home made ones on days that are not in the summer?

Finally, one place for all your emergency preparation questions

I have created a blog for emergency preparedness and self reliance. I used to be a ward emg prep and later stake emg prep specialist. I created plans that are not like anything you have seen. All the plans I have seen are what to do before an emg. I wanted a plan my leaders could use AFTER an emergency. Write me if you want a copy. Otherwise check out my blog for all the things I have learned. Its free and you can share all you want.

I welcome feedback. Good luck and God bless.

What kind of food in your 72 hour kit?

So it's time to replace my 72 hour kit and I was looking at what I got in there and was wondering what other people used. I know some people only have high calorie bars.

Here's what I had in mine:

Cooked brown rice (ready to eat)
Oatmeal packets (cream of fruit kind)
Ready to eat noodles with sauce, pad thai and peanut (the noodles are already cooked)
Large variety of energy bars (cliff bars, promaxx, luna bars etc)
Canned peaches, pinapple and fruit cocktail
Canned soup (chicken tortilla)
Fruit leather and m&m's
Rice milk
water
caprisons
Crackers
Peanut butter

I'm thinking of putting in less sugary stuff.
