To paraphrase a great book, in the manner you judge someone you will be judged. I hope any LDS members here who are for nailing the FLDS remember they are parroting the same justifications for their persecution as the people who persecuted the Church in the 19th. Century.

How ironic it seems to me that in today's society there are those who do not marry at all and yet have several children with different partners and are looked on as better than these FLDS for they have committed no crime.

How true, and as for 13 and 14 year olds having children when can we expect the state of California and New York to send in the police and National Guard, surround the projects in LA and NYC and taking the children from their predominantly single mothers?
It's for their own good, right?

Apples and oranges. A neglected (sometimes not) 14 year old girl, hooking up with an older man, repeated sporadically throughout a community, is a far cry from organized, forced pedaphilic marriages being carried out illegally, and under the guise of religion. And, BTW, where parents are engaged, those older men who molest 14 year olds in urban communities do indeed get charged with statutory rape.

I really don't know enough about life within that compound to be able to answer that question. However, I do know that there are certain estates here where I wouldn't want my children growing up either. The morals and lives of the people who live in these areas leave a lot to be desired.

I shed tears for the poor innocent children who, through no fault of their own, have been removed from the only homes they have ever known...
I cry for them because they were born into a community that accepts this brand of depravity as the will of the Lord...
I cry for them because they have Mothers who are too abused, too brainwashed and too afraid to protect them from harm....
I cry for them because there are 350+ lawyers who are trying to send them back...
I cry for them because if they ARE sent back, they will be hidden from the world, and never see the light of day again...

one thing to Remember...... these people are so called spititual married. therefore any marrage after the first is not leagal, I think it is horrid that a man can take a 13 year old or 15 year old time and time again just to have more children, that is abuse! a 50 year old has no right to take a bride of 15 again and again, it is sick and twisted! Sounds like it is a competion to see who can father more kids and be the closest to God. come on people this is twisted!

Yes, the state of Texas may indeed pay for this mistake in monetary terms that stager the imagination once the civil rights lawyers get into their groove.

You know how many times since the days of Joseph Smith people have said that about Mormon culture? Many still are saying it.

Give these women a little bit of credit. I see a lot of people trying to psychoanalyze these women but never with them present to respond.

For once, I applaud the legal profession -- although I suspect that while some are motivated by higher principles such as constitutional law others see the flagerant abuse of power by the state of Texas and smell awards.

Then legalize polygamy and then regulate it -- i.e. make it manditory for a person getting married into a polygamist household to be at least 18. It is totally ironic to chase a sub-culture underground and then freak out when they drift further away from the general society! From what I have read, most polygamists groups (epsecially those in Utah) have voluntarily agreed to not allow women under the legal age of consent to enter into plural marriage. The FLDS are the only exception -- but maybe now an understanding could be reached with them to follow the lead of other fundamentalist Mormon groups.
