I might be overusing this quote, but it just fits SO many situations.
“Perhaps the greatest charity comes when we are kind to each other, when we don’t judge or categorize someone else, when we simply give each other the benefit of the doubt or remain quiet. Charity is accepting someone’s differences, weaknesses, and shortcomings; having patience with someone who has let us down; or resisting the impulse to become offended when someone doesn’t handle something the way we might have hoped. Charity is refusing to take advantage of another’s weakness and being willing to forgive someone who has hurt us. Charity is expecting the best of each other” (Elder Marvin J. Ashton “The Tongue Can Be a Sharp Sword,” Ensign, May 1992, 19). While I don't believe we should turn a blind eye to or easily justify sin, it is no excuse for treating a fellow brother or sister badly. None of us are perfect which you'd think would help us to be more charitable with each other. |

The word of wisdom says All grain is ordained for the use of man and of beasts, to be the staff of life. Guess how fat you can get eating lots and lots of products with 'enriched bleached flour' as their main ingredient?
Answer: Really fat. The WoW might be the Lord's health code, but it is not necessarily the Lord's diet plan. LM

One thing we need to do is adopt one idea the Chinese schools have -- start the day with 30 minutes of a hard workout routine. Maybe then we can combat obesity in young people as well as "hyperactivity".

I disagree. I dont think it works for everyone. I worked out hard for 2 hours a day for a whole semester in college and ate really healthy and did not lose 1 pound. I think it depends on the person. I really think you have to find what works for your body. Now this may sound like an excuse but my problem I think is genetic. My dad is really obese and he has struggled with his weight his whole life and he was very active when he was younger. Hes done diets. My mom has researched alot into eating healthy and nutritiosly and still he is heavy. Now I know he is as heavy as he is now because he has given up but Im not sure the answer is weight. I an considered just barely obese and every time I go into the doctor they are suprised because my health is great. My dad has never had Diabetes and his blood pressure is great. You cant judge health by what people look like. Now I know that I still have a responsibility to stay healthy and that when I stay at the weight that is normal to me i dont look overweight but I think staying healthy is about much more then working through weight. Its about learning to deal with stress and life and learning to love yourself the way God loves you.

A healthy weight for some people is different than others.
I hope by my first post no one assumed that I'd judge their righteousness by weight! I don't think the WoW is a clear measure of that by any means. |

My health and step aerobic instructor in college took our fat content using some sort of pinching device that measures how much fat in percentage you have in your body. For men healthy is 15-18% for women it's 18% - 22% if I recall correctly. But she said that looks mean nothing. She has tested people who are very thin and just look like they need a hamburger but turn out to have very high unhealthy levels of fat content because they don't exercise (both aerobic - which is running the treadmill, and anerobic - which weight lifting and push ups). She said she has also tested these HUGE guys that look like they really need to cut out those hamburgers and hop on a treadmill only to find that they have very low or healthy levels of fat content.
I personally am a yo -yo when it comes to weight. It sucks. My problem is consistency. I know my body responds really well to anerobic activity but I suck at keeping at it. I always want sugary sweets - but I'm banned from them by my husband. The deal is, only he can tell me when I can have sugary sweets. So, to combat my sweet tooth I just bought a bunch of oranges and orange juice so I can satisfy my sugar cravings. I am also an emotional eater. High stress and feeling real down (the pre depression feelings) cause me to eat more than I should. Quote:
I disagree with your first half. Part of being healthy is to eat right. You can not possibly get all the vitamins and minerals and the essential fatty acids and other nutrients by eating doritos and hamburgers.

To deny an otherwise worthy member a temple recommend only because they are fat smacks of bigotry and strikes me as that particular priesthood holder not being in tune with the Lord's Spirit.
As a side note, being a "fat girl" myself, if you aren't my doctor, any comments regarding my weight will be met with my throwing my drink in your face. 1) It it flat out rude. 2) It is not your body, so button your lip. 3) I am trying very hard to shape up, and it's not going very well for me. I come from a "fat" family and people on my father's side, the side I take after, are big people. Just my 2 cents.
