Teacher sends feces home with 6-year-old

DALLAS -- A teacher is on paid administrative leave after sending*a first-grader home with feces in his backpack because the boy went to the bathroom on the classroom floor.

The teacher apparently was frustrated with the 6-year-old student's actions so wrapped up the waste and sent it home with the boy Tuesday along with a note, Dallas school district spokesman Donald Claxton said.

Claxton declined to identify the teacher at Gabe P. Allen Elementary School.

"It generally appears the teacher was trying to help raise awareness with the family," Claxton said. "It's just an unfortunate incident. Unfortunately, she took this course of action."

So I want to know - when people do things like this - what are they think'n?

One question would be, Why did the boy defecate on the classroom floor? (OK, two questions) and, How has his behavior been previous to this incident?

What does it matter? The actions of the teacher were unacceptable no matter what brought it on. Whatever brought it on should have been dealt with in some other way than making a kid take their own feces home.

I agree fire the teacher, but I am not surprised that a six year old would do such a thing.
I work in a building that is half daycare pre-kindergarten and occasional childcare, (drop off) I see behavior of all kinds that would blow you away!

One boy about 7 screamed at his mother like a crazy man “That’s fine from now on I’ll call you Patricia not mom and you’re a loser”! and then a stream of swears that I never would have dreamed would come out of a child, (the C word) of all things!
He was drooling from his mouth and his face was red.
The mother just stood there and said and did nothing, I walked up to the boy and said, “Excuse me Can It”! He shut up. Mom just smiled at me and kept on walking.
This child lives two door down from me, needless to say I don’t let my grandson play with him when he visits. I asked the pre kindergarten teacher what was up with that boy and she said you should see him at home, that there was no respect in that home towards any member of the family.

Then there that ones who scream at what ever parent has come to pick them up when they don’t want to go home, with complete refusal to leave, because their not ready to go and wish to stay at play group. Lets not forget the boggier wipers and other body fluids they fling at adults and other children, they’re like monkeys throwing crap at each other from the trees!
At times I think the world will be run by crazy adults when I retire.
But then I visit my daughter and my son and see what good parents they are, My daughter was a born mom. She juggles work and home better then I ever did. She just smailes and says “Mom we came out OK”

Totally unacceptable behavior on the part of the teacher! Why would any administrator want someone like THAT as part of their elementary school, let alone their district? It's teachers like that who can scar a child for life. This should have been a red flag for others to take seriously.

I agree that it was an extreme behaviour, but, maybe, just maybe, this child has been a terror, notes have been sent home to the parents and nothing has been accomplished, etc. Maybe the teacher felt pushed into it. Since most teachers have the patience of Job, I am saying that there might have been some underlying behavior that the teacher tried to address and went unanswered by the parents (and maybe some of the school administration.) Just a thought.

I see your point Jenda, I really don't agree with the method used for any reason. Both my parents were teachers at one time of their lives, (both retired as teachers).... not in the elementary level, but teachers nonetheless. My step mom probably would smile and say the exact same thing....that the child must of been a holy terror, and she must have been at the end of her rope.
But as crass as she can be (my stepmom) - she would disagree with the method...pushed or not. And she is about as hard core as you can find.

I remember in 5th grade the teacher not letting the boy sitting next to me go to the bathroom during class time. This was a really good kid who didn't pose problems for anyone.....and accidents happen to those who can't wait any longer. The humiliation on his face was something I will never forget. That was the first time I felt disrespect for a teacher, and we were taught in that day that teachers were to be held in high regard, to be honored and respected as figures of esteem authority. Boy.....did our eyes open to the mistakes and the failings of some teachers after that!
