I'm tired of it all
I guess the Mormon way is not my way. I'm tired of being told that I have to do this or not do that. If that is the price I have to pay to be a member count me out. I like my life the way it is. Sorry guys. Some of us like our life the way it is. I like to drink once in awhile. I like coffee and tea. There are just to many things I would have to change to become a member. Sorry. Even though I know the truth I'm going to go the other way.
Is that a sin?

At least you're honest -- props for that. I feel much the same way..
Are you sure you wouldn't be better off in the church? It's not a home of the righteous.. but rather a gathering of the sick. We all have problems.

I don't get it. If this Church is true--the teachings, the revelations, the promise of eternity in the highest kingdom...if you believe all that, how could you possibly give all that up for an occasional brewsky, venti latte, etc.?

So...I'm wondering what is it like when the pressures are on the other side of the coin. I know the pressures of being an 'outsider'...what is it like to cope with all that as someone born into the Mormon faith...is it any easier?

Some members view it as pressure, however others view it as virtuous, clean/pure, and obediant. Some members view it as restrictive, others view it as the "ways of the world" and evil therefore something to avoid. I.E. Pornography, sex, etc. .
When one view is trying to be obediant to Gods teachings and commandments in order to be blessed, have joy and happiness versus being disobediant, rebel, and be miserable and unhappy, then it isn't viewed as pressure at all.
Kona0197 views are not all that uncommon. I felt that same way at one time in my life. I later however realized that this did not bring me the happiness and joy I was seeking.
I had a prospective member tell me last week that he could not join the church because he couldn't possible "Fast" if it was a requirement. He just couldn't go without food for 2 consecutive meals.
The purpose of this life is to make choices.

I rather change it here than the next life....Kona, if you could see beyond the veil, you would be clinging to those principles that would help you to achieve that status to be with our Heavenly Parents. Anything less than the Celestial Kingdom, would be 'hell'.

I would personally define sin as "going against what you know to be right." Since this is the position your taking, then yes i think it is a sin. Sorry if that sounds harsh. That's how i feel about it.
I like prisonchaplain's question, though, if you know it's true, why let it go for an occasional shot of liquor and some coffee? Is liquor and coffee really worth it?

i too am curious about the answer to pc's question.
i can say as someone raised in the church and having never done anything "extremely bad" i have had more than one moment of saying "i'm tired of it all".
yes there is a lot to it, yes we have to learn sacrifice, discipline, and dedication to be "the best we can be"................... but then that can be applied to a lot more than religion.......so maybe that's just a fact of life, choose what you want and then do what you must to gain it.

Stay With What Is True
I would say that I have to agree 100% with bmy and prisonchaplain. Why would you want to leave something that you know is true and then possibly have regrets later? To coin a phrase that has probably been used to death but is true nonetheless, "The Church is perfect, the Saints are not." There are problems in all areas of the Church just as in any other church. The good news is that we have so much more and personally I would not throw all of that away for anything in this world. I too want to thank you for your honesty. Please think about your decision carefully.
