Getting one's butt wupped!
Just interested to find out how my friends across the pond feel about the fact that the US, with a population of about 5 times the UK has achieved the massive haul of 29 Gold Medals in the Olympics, compared to the UK's 17?
Is it Dubya? Is it Global Warming? Is it the 'Global Credit Crunch?'
Your feeble excuses are greatly anticipated.....

How bout our 5 times your population comes over and stomps you? Oh wait, our puny colonials already kicked your butts back in 1783. Hmmm anything else you want to talk about?

Checker - avoiding the issue mate.
'you' didn't kick our butts in 1783 - some of our own kinfolks, kicked our butts.
You are merely a descendant of both warring parties.
I do feel your pain on your poor showing in Beijing.

Well this is an easy question -- most of the questions on these forums are hard to answer.
We have more total medals, so there!! Who says, Gold is better than Silver or Bronze

LOL....who has the most medals again? I only see US and China the first two top position. Now, I am the only American child in my family while others were born in the UK, I would side with the kid who carries the bigger stick and the most toys [technology].

Ok let's break this down - 8 of the UK's 17 golds came from Cycling events while the US only got 1 from Cycling so I will grant that you are better bike riders.
The UK only had 2 golds in Swimming while the US got 12 - 8 of which came from one person. Hmmm.
UK- no golds in Gymnastics, US - 2 golds in Gymnastics.
Overall the UK only got gold in 5 different types of events. While the US got gold in a whopping 14 different types of event.
So you tell me who got whose *** kicked?

Do you guys not study arithmetic in the US (BTW, my dad was born in Kearney, NJ, so I'm 50%)
We have one fifth of the population if the US - so, if the US win 29 golds, we should, by rights, win only 6 (we got 17).
Conversely, if we win 17 golds, you should win 85 (you got 29)
Yep, we can ride bikes. (No idea why TBH)
Apart from Michael Phelps, we got 2 golds, you got 4.
We got Gold in: Swimming, Sailing, Rowing, Track Athletics, Cycling (and still have three guys heading, hopefully, towards Boxing Medals)
Your 4 x 100m teams can't hold onto a hollow baton (admittedly, our guys waited until they were about 2in from the finish line)
Maybe, it just might be, that the US - home of MacDonalds, Starbucks, KFC, BurgerKing, Trans-fatty-acids and Doughnuts - might be struggling a bit at the moment.
Bring it on underachievers!
