they are not turn signals. those flashing things on the corners of the vehicles are used to notify the car approaching from the rear which lane you want HIM/HER to pass you on.

When we get American missionaries here who have a British driving license, the first thing they always say is how polite British drivers are compared to American drivers e.g. we thank each other for letting us out and we give way even when not required to.

I've been to American once, which just happened to be New York. I wouldn't dream of ever trying to drive in that state. I think people have their hand on their horn for about 60% of their journey, they use it for everything. I even witnessed a police officer shout at a car to "use his horn, that is what it's for" when the guy in front of him wasn't moving very fast.

In the UK, your horn is for emergencies in order to warn someone i.e. a pedestrian steps out in front of you, not as a sign of your annoyance (even though occasionally that will happen).

In Missouri the left lane is for....only when you are talking on your cell phone and slow down at the same time while using your cell phone..

When I went to Ricks College in Idaho, one thing I noticed is that Idaho drivers do not slow down for pedestrians.

But of course. What did you think the bumper was for?

I will admit we have our own quirks, like when a farmer is going to turn left on a highway he gets into the left oncoming lane about 1/4 mile before the turn and slows way down. If I were driving a $70k diesel pickup truck I wouldn't play chicken with the oncoming tractor And yes Idaho drivers are slower, but that's because Idaho state patrolmen/women will give tickets if you drive more than 5 mph more than posted depending on mood, and you can never depend on their mood.

AND I wasn't impeding traffic, the trucks were going my speed lol. I've always thought if you have out-of-state plates and are zooming down the freeway you have a big fat target on your bumper that says 'ticket me here, punk'.

Speaking of turn singles – I once picked up a hitch-hiker in Utah. Before he got in the truck I ask him to check to see if the turn signal was working. He stood behind the truck and yelled, “Okay it is working – wait now it isn’t, now it is, not working now, yes it is, now it’s not.”

Poor guy, he was one confused puppy.
