Man I've had that happen to me time and time again. Clear lanes but they have to ride my bumper. Like they are trying to force you to move out of THEIR way.

A few years ago I had a stickshift Corolla with a bad clutch. Since the clutch was dying anyway, I'd pop the tranny out of gear and move it towards reverse whenever someone got on my tail. It wouldn't go into reverse because of a safety feature, but the backup lights would still come on. Worked like a charm every time!!!

It wasn't so much about getting them to pass me as it was about getting them off my tail, which it definitely did. Think about it, how would you react if the backup lights on the car in front of you suddenly came on?

Even more fun when I'm keeping pace with a huge line of cars or a Semi in front of me. I can't speed up even if I wanted to dingbat!

I deal with tailgaters by tapping the brake pedal to flash the brake lights. I also slow down, both to reduce the impact even a tiny bit if something does go wrong and there's a crash, and to make the point that tailgating me will not "reward" you by forcing me to speed up.

That's what I do. I don't bother with the brake lights. I just step off the gas, so they don't realize it right away. It infuriates them.
Alternatively, I might slam on the brake for a second, let my car jerk enough to scare them, and then just go again.
