Default Family Histories,

Ok,

I dont have much on my moms side or my Dad's side to go on, but I did find out today that My dads family (my dad left the church when he was 10) but that his Grandmothers name was Young, And that if I traced it back I would find a nice surprise. now I have a really short attention span but if he is hinting at what I think he was
hinting at I don't have much to do on my dad's side...

Anyone got any suggestions, to see about weather or not my dad was filling me full of hot air or if he was actually suggesting that I am in some way however distant to Brigham Young?

I assume you know your dad's full name and your dad's parents full names. I would start there, go to default.htm and start doing the genealogy work as if it hadn't been done yet until you find out for yourself.

I started doing that on my moms side, and for some reason it said my mom who is in her 40's was born in 1917?

I'm not very good at this stuff.

Two possibilities:

1) Everything at familysearch.org has been submitted by Church members. Unfortunately, there are some members who are more interested in the quantity than the quality of the information they submit. FamilySearch is a nice starting point, but you need to double-check what you find on there before accepting any of it as gospel.

2) Living people shouldn't turn up by name on familysearch.org. The person born in 1917 is (obviously!) not your mother, and quite possibly isn't even related to you.
