Male advice columnist
Why aren't there more male advice columnists? These guys cut to the chase like no one else. (Apologies to those who have already seen this.)
Dear Ask John:
I hope you can help me. The other day, I set off for work leaving my husband in the house watching TV. My car started stalling and then it broke down about a mile down the road and I had to walk back to get my husband's help. When I got home, I couldn't believe my eyes. He was in our bedroom with the neighbor's daughter!
I am 32, my husband is 34, and the neighbor's daughter is 19. We have been married for ten years. When I confronted him, he broke down and admitted that they had been having an affair for the past six months. He won't go to counseling and I'm afraid I am a wreck and need advice urgently. Can you please help?
Sincerely,
Kate

Dear Kate:
Yes, I can almost surely help you. A car stalling after being driven a short distance can be caused by a variety of faults with the engine. Start by checking for debris in the fuel line. If it is clear, check the vacuum pipes and hoses on the intake manifold and also check all grounding wires. If none of these approaches solve the problem, it could be that the fuel pump itself is faulty, causing low delivery pressure to the injectors.
Regards,
John

In a similar vein:
Quote:
Dear Abby,
I've never written to you before, but I really need your advice.
I have suspected for some time now that my wife has been cheating on me. The usual signs are phone rings, but if I answer, the caller hangs up. My wife has been going out with "the girls" a lot recently, although when I ask their names she always says, "Just some friends from work, you don't know them."
Last night she went out again and I decided to really check on her. Around midnight, I decided to hide next to the garage behind my boat so I could get a good view of the whole street when she arrived home from a night out with "the girls". When she got out of the car she was buttoning up her blouse, which was open, and she took her nylons out of her purse and slipped them on.
It was at that moment, crouching behind the boat, that I noticed that there were some hairline cracks in the gelcoat, right where the side meets the transom.
Is this something I can fix myself or should I take it over to the boat yard to have it repaired?

Vort, I entered the first line of the Ask John letter into google as I was surprised at the hits. People across many boards liked that one. Keep them coming.
Hey, have you ever wondered whether avatars affect posting content?

Two thoughts on why we don't have male columnists of this type. First of all, for men, "Dear John" is the beginning of a "We're history letter." 2nd, columns, like all else, is a market. There's no market for male-oriented advice. (BTW, technically a GPS does not give advice, since it's only a machine...LOL).
Small picture thought--we don't need a columnist here--we have Dr. T!
