Default Mission Impossible 4 - Tom Cruise

I'm usually not impressed with movies I see. I recently rented (Red Box) the latest Mission Impossible film and had to say this - that movie is one great thrill ride! Tom Cruise and the whole cast do an excellent job. I don't usually have the desire to see a movie twice but I almost want to rent this movie again.

I'm sure I'm not giving anything away by saying there are some scenes on a skyscraper. Those scenes are intense. I was shocked to read on Wiki that Tom Cruise did his own stunts on that tower! He had eight or nine cable hooked up to him and they digitally removed them in post production. I can't believe he would do that.

This film gave me the feeling I had when I was a kid watching James Bond films from the 1980s with Roger Moore. Around the world action and adventure. Except women aren't really exploited in this film like they usually are in Bond films.

The only complaint I have is that it's heavy on the spy gadgets. They use too many amazing gadgets that are too far from reality.

Another thing - you can tell Cruise is getting older. He looks older in this film.

And another thing - this film was in the theaters in December and it's out on DVD now. I'm still shocked to see such quick turn around from movie to DVD.

The first Mission Impossible film was very good and classy. Second one was not good. I've not seen the third one. This fourth is very good.

Tom Cruise must be one of the best modern actors out there right now.

Overall I liked the movie. My only problem was you could see the ending coming a mile a way. Nothing really new there. Which for what they had already done was kind of a let down. But worth a rent!
MI 3 was better then two, but not as good as 1 and 4.

The fourth was brilliant! It was because it returned to what the movie is supposed to be: An impossible mission.

The first movie was: Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to stop someone who has betrayed you and turned the whole world against you. You have no support and no backup and you don't know who betrayed you, but it was definitely someone. Awesome.

The second movie was: Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to gather info on a powerful arms dealer. We know where he is. We have satellite transmission and we've even turned his fiancee, so as long as you don't fall in love with the fiancee, you're good to g... You fell in love, didn't you? YOU'RE A SPY! STOP IT! Dumb.

The third movie is: Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to stop a dumpy, chubby middle-aged guy. This seems like a stupid plot, except that the dumpy chubby middle-aged guy is Phillip Seymour Hoffman. He is the best villain in the entire series, bar none and his menacing presence is the only reason to watch it, because this guy is SCARY.

The fourth movie is: Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to stop someone - We don't know who - From doing something - We don't know exactly what, but we're pretty sure it's going to be really really bad - And the whole world hates you. You have no backup. And all that technology you had from the first film will fail spectacularly in the first two and a half minutes of using it. And the guy we don't know did the thing we don't know two and a half minutes ago, so hopefully you can invent time travel with no backup, no scientists and no money.

The fourth movie made me cheer lustily for its wonderfully impossible nature. It was an impossible mission.

Same here. I loved the first. The second was so incredibly awful that I didn't bother to see the third. The fourth, with its years of separation from the first part of the series, redeemed itself.

Yeah, not so much. This movie was good in spite of Tom Cruise.

My son - who is 8 and has been dreaming of becoming a Civil Engineer since he was 4 - dragged me to see this movie on opening night because it has spectacular views of Burj Khalifa! Now he is begging and begging us to take a trip to Dubai. Uh, this kid has never set foot west of Texas nor east of the atlantic ocean and he wants us to take him to Dubai.

Yes, the movie was great because of the stunts and the impossible stuff (gadgets included! Love the Blue is Glue and Red is Dead gloves). My 8 year old was literally on the edge of his seat almost falling off. But the plot... man... okay, the movie is not about the plot. The movie is about the stunts. LOL.

Okay... my really favorite part of the show? JEREMY RENNER! He was awesome in that movie - didn't know he can be funny too. But that scene where he was preparing to jump down the vent, stretching and such, was super hilarious. I'm so super looking forward to seeing him play Hawkeye on May 4!!!

I noticed MI:4 at the discount theater last time I was there, and was tempted to watch it. However, since I've been working six days a week, it had been months since I'd had the chance to watch a movie at the theater, and there were a number of others that I wanted to see playing at the same time, and I chose one of them. I'll have to see if I can find the DVD at the library. Sounds like fun!

You just described pretty much any Tom Cruise "action" movie.

***SPOILER for first MI movie***

The first MI movie was a betrayal for everyone who ever was a fan of the series. The very idea that Jim Phelps would betray and murder his own men and women -- and for <best Dr. Evil voice> One Millllllllion Dollars -- is in defiance of everything we know about the man. It is literally a betrayal of the very roots of the idea.

Which explains why I have never been more than a casual watcher of the Tom Cruise MI movies.
