Default Looking for two specific references

Dear fellow believers in the Restoration,

I am looking for two specific documents I remember reading years ago but am having difficulty locating. If anyone can help me find these writings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, I would appreciate it. I have been looking for the first one off-and-on for years.

1. I remember reading a letter or article written by the Prophet Joseph Smith (maybe in the Times and Seasons) explaining that when an elder builds up churches without the approval of the First Presidency, those churches are not lawfully part of God's true church. I believe he had reference to a particular elder who was doing this, somewhere in the 1839-1844 time frame.

2. I remember reading a statement (maybe in the Times and Seasons) in which the Prophet Joseph Smith definitely stated that he believed the Book of Abraham (which he had recently translated) to be the word of God. This may have been a very short article, and was defenitely separate from the actual publishing of the Book of Abraham.

Any help you can give me on finding these statements of the Prophet would be greatly appreciated.

Your brother,
Jeff

Here is a Times and Seasons archive made available through BYU: Nineteenth Century Mormon Publications

Thanks for the reply and the link. I went there and had a hard time getting a search to work; possibly I can try again. I have searched the Times and Seasons on at least one other site and have not found the article I remember reading (the first item above). I've been looking off-and-on for several years for that particular one. It may not be in the Times and Seasons; it could be elsewhere, since I've perused many early church documents. If anyone here has a good idea where it might be, or has come across it in the past, I would appreciate hearing from you. Any meaningful lead will be helpful.

Thank you again!

Hi all,

Has anyone been able to find these references? FYI, this is not for anti-Mormon purposes. I am a believer in the Book of Mormon.

Please see the first message in this thread for the original question.

Thanks!
