We went to see the torch on Tuesday. Arrived 2 hours early to get a good spot. Needed to as well - by the time it arrived the crowds were heaving. My little girl got a flag to wave with "I saw the torch" on it. Then the guy ran past with it, and in about 2 or 3 seconds and it was all over. Still - it was worth it

Jamie, wow, that's exciting! How fun. I wish I was there, enjoying the pre-Olympics festivities. I got it recording on TV but it just doesn't translate on screen like it would actually being there. I got my eye on Phelps and the women's gymnastics team.

I have a friend who ran with the torch when the Winter Olympics were in SLC. He has a replica of it and a pic of him running with the torch. Pretty cool.

I enjoy the Summer Olympics more than the Winter. I'm looking forward to the gymnastics, diving, basketball and some track and field. I'm sure there are others I'd like, but either I don't remember them or they don't broadcast them.

Does he still have his torch?

I saw on a recent episode of Pawn Stars, a man from SLC that ran in the Winter Olympics, selling his torch to the store for $500. He was a young man, I think he had some kind of injury from a car accident (maybe or something else) and he was specially hand selected. Anyway, I turned to my husband and said, "Noooo! What is he doing!?" You can never get that back once it's gone :[ And it had his running number on it.

Here they are allowing every runner to buy the torch that they carried for a small nominal price. There's been some outrage in the newspapers because some runners have now sold their torches for £1000's on e-Bay. If I had a torch there's no way I'd sell it! (Unless of course my family was starving!)

Yes, he still has it. It's hanging in a shadow box next the pic of him running with it. They have it prominently displayed in the home (at least the last time I was over there).

That's about $2000 USD. Yikes!

Yeh the SLC torches are staring bid at about $700. Not sure what people have actually bought them for. But it's a part of history and it'd be pretty cool to have one.

I just remembered this..

The medals for the 2012 Olympics were made from resources in Utah's mining! I saw this last night on the news and thought that was neat.
