Default mobile browser version of lds.net

more of a suggestion than a question... I'm under the impression quite a number of us have Internet enabled mobile devices, which often have a lower bandwidth capacity and obviously much less screen space. It's be a lot easier to browse this site with a version designed specifically for mobile devices. I'm under the impression there are forum addons which will automate a lot of the process of doing this, but doing it obviously depends on demand for it. Do the site statistics show how many mobile browsers we get?

Thanks

I am so freaking old. I have no idea what you are talking about. I have read every definition of "addons" (add ons?) I can find, and still don't understand what they are.

Okay try and make this basic. You start a site like lds.net. You have a program that has basic features. It doesn't currently have a chat feature but you want to add one. There are programs or add ons you can download or upload to add a chat feature to your already established basic website.

Clear as mud?

LOL what pam said. This forum runs off vbulletin. It's the same as software you install on your computer basically, you simply install it, change any settings and then use it. The task of making it has already been done. The difference is this software is installed on the server as opposed to your own computer as we can all access it. The other difference is that the code used to make the vbulletin software is open for all and sundry to see (open source). That means anyone who knows the scripting language it was written it can make modifications. These modifications are often then uploaded on the Internet as "addons", so anyone else who wants to make the same changes can simply download the addon and install it, without any need to get their hands dirty in the source code. Addons basically do all the hard work for you as most of the time, any changes you want to make to your forum have already been thought of and done by someone else first and that person has kindly submitted the code changes he made in the form of an addon.

Look on google for vbulletin addons. Mobile browsers are becoming increasingly common and all popular sites have made a version of their website which can be more easily browsed on such a small screen and slower Internet connection. Usually they just get rid of all pictures and leave the text, as text will wrap (adjust to the screensize) whereas it's a lot harder to do this with pictures and pictures are usually what makes a site for forever to load.

Any clearer? LOL.
