Default Upgrade from Vista to Windows 7?

Now that Windows 7 is out, has anyone upgraded there computer to it?

I have Vista and am cautious about upgrading until I've heard from people who have done so.

Even if you've upgraded from something other than Vista, I'd like to hear your opinion.

Thanks,
Elph

Elph,
My new computer has Windows 7 on it. It is a little different than XP. but it is so like Vista.

Husband is going to upgrade. All of the Super Nerds where he works says that Windows & is the way to go. It is what Vista tried to be.

Once he gets all of my data off of my sick old computer, he is then upgrading.

To sum it up and stop my rambling.
One in favor of Windows 7 upgrade.

Miss, I am a Macanatic! I used to have my own publishing business, and can truthfully say I loved my Mac more than my life itself.

Unfortunately, I cannot afford one anymore, and it is true that my life is no longer the same.

Is he STILL working on it after the e-mail fiasco? Wow I feel bad about that.

You'll have to let me know how you like 7 once it's all fixed. I'm anxious to hear about it.

Don't try to upgrade Vista 32-bit to Windows 7, it won't work and you will have messed up your original installation.

Might consider waiting till the second beta version - it will have the designation SP2. The first beta version will come out next year and the second beta about 1.5 years after that. Right now, lack of drivers for the final alpha version that was released on October 22, are a critical factor.

Windows 7 will not upgrade the most popular Windows XP.

Beta?

SP means service pack.

I had windows 7 RC. You always have to know I had Vista Ultimate, and Windows Xp pro. (So yes I had three OS on one machine).

I knew I would get Windows 7 but there was no rush because the free Windows 7 Releace candidate was good until March 2010.

I also knew if I was going to do it, I would have to wipe XP off. (running out of space)

So I do this deal
Microsoft Office Discount for US Students -The Ultimate Steal- Office 2007 Software for $59.95

Having my brother use his college e-mail. (He plans on buying a new laptop probably next year).

So I got Windows 7 pro for $43 with them sending me the DVD. It was an upgrade, but you can install the upgrade (clean install) just like normal. I had to download it and do some trickery to get the exe to an ISO. But once I did I burned the ISO to a DVD. (They now have the ISO for download)

Sunday came home, took all my XP files and moved them over to different drives. Booted onto the DVD and formatted the XP drive and started to let Windows 7 install. I then went to lay down. Got up like maybe 20 mins later and it was all done. I was booted into windows, and Graphics, and mouse and everything works (way easier then installing any other OS).

I did have to do an update to find the drivers for my TV card, but thats about it. I did have to tweak things to get my Vista to show up in the boot screen.
During all the web surfing and windows 7 how tos I found this site
Ninite Easy PC Setup and Multiple App Installer - Great For Win7 Upgrades

You pick which programs you need to install and it downloads and install them all in one installer. That means you can't do any custom install or pick where you want each one. Still way easy for all I needed.

I don't upgrade, so I don't know how that would go! But the install (clean) was the easiest I have ever done.

Before in Windows 7 RC I had Office 2010 Technical Preview, but Office 2010 beta is do out in Nov. So I'm just waiting to use that.

The reason I kept XP around is because of Gospelink 2001!. I did a quick test in Vista and wasn’t able to get it running completely. But Windows 7 pro comes with XP virtual Machine. Just now sure I want to use up that much space just to have Gospelink work.

I won't upgrade my current machine - even though it's possible to "upgrade" it.

I see no reason to. My equipment works fine. I have Vista for Business right now. I have XP Pro and all the drivers that I can install if Vista no longer suits me.

I like some of the "doo-dads" of Windows 7, so I found some ways to customize my Vista experience to resemble the task-bar, the "aero-shake" and the "aero-snap" in Vista. If you do a search, you can do it too.

Keep in mind that I'm noticing a trend with newer desktop PCs that are 64-bit Windows 7 OS (instead of 32-bit). So if you have a lot of software that you regularly use or other equipment, you'll want to find out if they're compatible before buying the new machine.

First off, Macs are overrated. Honestly, what can the average person do with a Mac that can't be done with a PC? You can get a lot more PC for less money.

I have 2 Macs. I have a black Macbook dual booting OSX and Windows Vista and I have an iMac that is now running Windows 7 natively. I absolutely hate Windows Vista. I absolutely love Windows 7.

Windows 7 is definately a huge improvement over Windows Vista.
