i really admire reza aslan ( Reza Aslan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia), and his book "no god but God" helped, but it didn't really enlighten, i just learned some interesting facts. i guess that was kind of the point of the book though. i've also talked a bit with the daughter of the rabbi who runs a halal/kosher food shop with my dad, but once again, i just learned some interesting facts and that's it
at first i was really skeptical about mormonism because of the "special underwear" thing and because of, um, mitt romney. (believe it or not, i didn't really care about the polygamy thing, i thought people were making too big a deal out of it to be honest.) i know "because mitt romney is a mormon" was a really immature reason. (sorry to any romney supporters.) so that's over now, and i'm ready to learn more about mormonism.
so, um, hello!

Welcome to the site!
Well, I hope you find what you're looking for, and ask question if you don't understand something so we can clarify it to you.
Going through the threads here, with so many different opinions and diversity of religious views or none, can be a little confusing to understand the stance of the Church on some issues.
I'd suggest to take a look at the websites Pushka posted on post#1, Mormon.org & The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints so that you can begin at your pace, and explore the topics you wish to, and learn our basic beliefs.
My boss is a muslim, and I'm used to dealing with people from many different backgrounds, and learning about them. I look forward to getting to know you, and if I may be of service, contact me!
Wish you well!

Welcome to the site. Learning to know God is the most wonderful journey of my life. It's sounds like you are deep in it.

"Mormonism" is a system which . . . if carried out . . . [will] fulfill the sayings of the Prophets, both ancient and modern, put down all wickedness, abuse, proscription, misrule, oppression, ignorance, darkness, and tyranny, and restore mankind to righteousness, truth, liberty, law, and government, in which the Lord's will [shall] be done on the earth as it is in heaven. That is what "Mormonism" will do, when carried out . . . (JD 1:297-309).

Hello, Lina.
Hi, Lina.
I just signed up for this site about 5 minutes ago. You are the first person that I am writing to. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read my reply, and I hope that I can share my testimony of the Restored Gospel in a manner that will be helpful and encouraging to you.
When the Latter-Day Saint missionaries knocked on my door in July of 1994, I was not currently attending any church, though I had been a member of several churches over the course of my lifetime. What influenced me to "hear them out" were the public service messages that I had seen on T.V. about love and family. Those "advertisements" made me feel something very good. I was a divorced mother of 2 children, and I needed some moral support to raise my kids. My son was on the verge of joining a gang, so I knew he had needs that I wasn't addressing.
The missionaries told me about themselves and handed me The Book of Mormon, giving me a reading assignment. The only thing, positive or negative that I had heard about this book was that it was written by a false prophet. I decided that it couldn't hurt to find out for myself what on earth was in this book. So I did.
"Why, this is nothing but a book of scripture like the Bible! It testifies of Jesus Christ all the way through it!" I said to myself as I began to read the pages. My joy grew as I read, and I took the challenge to pray to Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, to ask for a witness from the Holy Spirit that it was true, and I felt a warm, wonderful confirmation in all of my being! I wondered how it was that people thought it had been written by a fraud when all it did was testify and teach of Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God!
There is a marvelous account in the Book of Mormon about Jesus's visit to and ministry in the Americas. How could anyone NOT want to read about THAT??
I testify to you, Lina, that the Book of Mormon is true--a second witness of Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God. But you don't need to take anyone's word for it. You can easily obtain the book and read it for yourself. I hope that you do, dear lady. Remember, God is not the author of confusion. All of your doubts can be erased, and you can know for yourself what is truth and what is not.
If there are any questions I can answer for you, I would welcome the opportunity.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth
