Yes! Only few who achieve this pinnacle of truth will become the Son of Perdition. Now, Saints who do receive the 'Fullness of the Godhead' and not repent, will have to suffer their own sins. This is outside of the reach of the Savior's Atonement. They will come forth after all others have been resurrected. Receiving such reward has it momentous downfall.

That is part of the equation. But it is not all. There are those who have seen the Lord and deny his authority and are not Sons of Perdition.

In this dispensation, the following must occur for someone to be a Son of Perdition (as described to the MTC in 1988 by Elder Maxwell):

1) Calling and election made sure by Temple Ordinance.
2) Manifestation of Christ with the personal manifestation of the Holy Ghost, in person.
3) Deny these truths.

Elder Maxwell said that only a handful of people in all of human history would qualify to become Sons of Perdition.

Yes, the whole statement is that we must see the Lord face to face and know that He is, then...

How many of those individuals can describe the Holy Ghost in person?

Also, they will know Lucifer personally. This allowed visitation is a must to know the difference between those of the divine heritage and those who are not. See what happened to Moses and Joseph Smith.
