It does appear that someone twisted scripture around. Next we'll hear LDS don't take showers because the devil lives in the showerhead.

Didn't it say in revelation that the beast will rise out of the water?

lol no pam you are safe to take a shower as long as you are in constant contact with your garments. it's really not that complicated to shower with one hand while the other is stuck out of the shower holding your garments.......
NOTE: I AM KIDDING. showering with one hand is not an lds belief or teaching. i'm joking about someone that has taken our doctrines and twisted it to try to make us look crazy and actually teaches that we shower with one hand. i guess some ppl will believe anything.

I think I have read that but I wouldn't have an immediate source for it.

Wow--haven't heard that one. Must be those Polynesians that flock to the church offset any fear us regular Mormons would have.

Revelation 13:1 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a
beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns,
and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of
blasphemy.

I've heard it maybe 3 or 4 times in the last 30 years. It's an urban legend - passed around like it's true, but it isn't.
The most memorable variation: Missionaries are not allowed on beaches because Satan will take control of their minds and make them drown themselves.

Maybe it gained steam (forgive the pun) when the Titanic sank in 1912, and everyone said, "See I told you so."

Yeah! No mormons drowned on the Titanic, now were they!
I like that one.

This water demon business really does have a fairy tale quality to it. Perhaps it needs a formal name such as Jaws***. If it has indeed become ingrained in Mormon thought, I hope it is not too deep. In any case, I will no let it interfere with lap swimming.
*** In the meantime I will hum The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
