A look behind the scenes... this was interesting to me, as it was filmed in our neck of the woods.

The screenplay was written by Matt Whitaker. He began working on “The Work and the Glory: American Zion” and “A House Divided” in November of 2004. It took four weeks to write a first draft, then another five months for the revisions.
When filming the scenes with horses and wagons, there was always a trained wrangler ready to step in and take control of the reins if the horses got out of control.

Film was shot in Nashville, and in areas around the Smoky Mountains. The entire set was built just for The Work and The Glory films. The property was leased to the filmmakers by a Tennessee resident. The set is still standing, and the owner loves to take evening walks through the set grounds.

The film was made during the hot summer months in Tennessee. The actors were dressed in heavy wool clothes of the times despite the 100 degree weather.

Our YW and YM have watched all three, during out Joint Activity nights. Wonderful series. Some of the youth have borrowed them, and re-watched with their families.

I have come to better know Joseph Smith through these movies and in doing so my testimony of him has grown significantly.

Isn't the fourth part of the series was reported this morning by Deseret News as almost completed?

You just have to know that it's all historical fiction.
I didn't like the first one (havent' seen the rest) because I thought it was the Joseph Smith story, and so I was like, "what?" My daughter also kept asking me, "where's Joseph Smith?"

I also hated the way they had Joseph get the Golden Plates. LAME. It's not that hard to stay vaguely historically accurate on that one now is it? Oy.

I have heard that the second is better, and maybe I'll appreciate it going in knowing that it's historical fiction. . .

I enjoyed it. I don’t think I would expect Kids to follow the movie.

Actually it was pretty close. We know Joseph Smith got them, I think it was at night. We know Emma helped. I guess the only part, was I don’t think people were chasing Joseph. I don’t see that being that far off?

The second is okay (better then Indian Jones movie) but not as good as the 3rd one. The problem with the second is how it ends. They had to cut it off at some time to do the third. Plus the girl (that everybody falls in love with) keeps changing in each movie if I remember correctly.

Last I heard, they weren’t doing any more of these movies. I think Larry H. Miller (the main one funding this all) felt like it wasn’t worth doing any more. (They made okay money for being an LDS film). I haven’t heard anything else? On imdb.com the guy playing Joseph Smith doesn’t show any other Work and the Glory movies.

(really just watch the Emma Movie that came out, its kind of half like these work and the glory movies, and half a church video, sense it did have most of the cast from the Joseph Smith movie at Temple Square)

I don't know either if there is going to be a 4th or not. I'm waiting though! The third ended whereas it left the veiwer with the anticipation of a 4th. That would be too sad if they didn't continue.
