A not for profit site such as this one is also governed by IRS regulations and rules. One of those rules is that we not endorse or appear to endorse any particular candidate running for office. Should we do this, we could risk losing our not for profit status. This site is run totally on the donations of individuals and organizations who believe in the work and the content being provided for and on this site. Not for profit of course means we aren't charging a fee and are making no money off the running of this site.

Eric, this is precisely why we are not allowed to:

As a non-profit organization, 501(c)3, we are governed by legal constraints relative to writing, blogging, or otherwise endorsing any candidate running for political office. The law states, in effect, that no one acting on behalf of the nonprofit can intervene directly or indirectly in the election process by endorsing a political candidate. Any post that speaks favorably about one candidate, even in a religious context, can be construed as indirect intervention in the election process. While journalists are presently exempt from this provision, bloggers and forum-members are not.

Forum members are not exempt from "indirect intervention" due to legal constraints. I hope this simplifies the explanation.

Thanks for the explanation. I am trying to understand. Although I think just mentioning the names of the candidates or discussing the political debate is not endorsing. Endorsing is something different and we all know that. Well at least now I know what a non-profit site is.

Have a good day!

Eric
