It's good to know that other LDS disagree with you. LDS Reviews 4 Movies gives a critique and at the end says "I recommend the movie for married people over age 25." Do you think it's normal for a fellow LDS to recommend a pornographic movie for even married people to view?

Sound, balanced teaching is a must. Our default should be to partake. Our default should be to live in joy, not condemnation. Our default should be to love, not to correct, to encourage, not to criticize. (Quote from prisonchaplain)

Why? Are you really that influenced by others' opinions?

Apparently so.

But if I started letting others make those decisions for me, as you seem to suggest, then I suppose that when I stand before Christ, I could always say, "Well, you know, the folks at LDS Film Reviewers Inc. said it was a great flick!" I expect that will cover me just fine.

Because it confirms for me that you're opinion is not the norm. That other LDS are at least reasonable in their thoughts.

Ah. First my mind is in the gutter, and now I'm unreasonable.

Thanks for the charitable assessment, sis.

I cannot believe this turned into a discussion about Big, without the Love. Kind of funny actually.

BTW, Vort, I'm in your camp regarding Big, without the love (thanks Heather, that's hilarious!).

I read the press release and what I read into it was that we are free to boycott and we are not being told not to..and that it is within our right to do it. The only thing it said is that the church as an institution will not be doing it.

Tom Hanks is the one behind this and he is very anti-Mormon. He's made that very clear. As individual members of the church, we should think for ourselves before giving any group, person or company business. Long ago, I stopped watching Tom Hanks movies or giving money to HBO.

Why stop at AOL or HBO, why not extend it to any network they own or publication they own. People won't do it. It's not worth it to them.

My family just moved to a new place. We don't have cable tv yet, in fact, we don't even have a TV yet. I don't think I'm going to get one. I think I'm going to spend the money on something else.

Unhappy

I am wondering what we can do other than write letters and boycott...I am now questioning the Church just asking for advice...and I honestly never heard anything positive about Big Love from a member...maybe it makes our past of polygamy more understandable and therefore...something? Although I do find the portrayal of sacred temple ceremonies insulting and appalling.

I saw Big as a Baptist kid and although there may be a point to that I think it is overdone. And I see wisdom in the statement about this turning to a thread about Big...without the Love. I am wondering why Love on a Latter Day Saint forum has been replaced bu sarcasm and insults. When we are told to reprove with "sharpness" it means directness not cruelty and sarcasm. Please remember who we are as this kind of behavior is not tolerated on the general Christian forum I belong to and they are even respectful to me as a member of the Church. I truly hope none of them see this contentious site. I do not mean to be on a high horse but we are an Ensign to the nations whether we we like it or not. If we hate each other...and that is what I saw, who are we? Certainly we are not followers of the Prince of Peace.

Please, people, remember who we are.
