Default Need your help - Big Love, we are offended!

I'm sure everyone has heard that the next episode of Big Love, an HBO show produced by Tom Hanks, will be showing their own depiction of sacred LDS Temple ceremonies. There is an email circulating to threaten to or to drop subscriptions to HBO. I know many people who are offended by this who don't subscribe to HBO and those who feel that such threats and actions still won't make our voices heard.

Well here is something that you can do to help and something that will make a difference. Please go to Digg, create and account, and "Digg" this story - Digg - HBO's Big Love becomes the latest to attack & offend Mormons which is the LDS Newsroom's response to the Big Love episode. By getting a high number of Diggs (thousands), your voice will be heard by hundreds of thousands of people. Every time someone searches for Big Love, this story will be what they will find. It will only take you two minutes to support the Church's response to this publicity dilemma and make a difference.

Digg it! - Digg - HBO's Big Love becomes the latest to attack & offend Mormons

Please forward this on through email.

Unhappy

Oh my goodness!
Tom Hanks is producing this?
I've always thought he was so cool, I am now disappointed in the fellow...

Good idea! Thanks!

It's a good idea but I don't think it will work. Digg's algorithim gives very little sway to newly created accounts to prevent this very thing.

EDIT: What we would need is about 200 people who have had a digg account for more than 2-3 months and have been active on it.

Hopefully a lot of people who get this email will have accounts. For those who don't have accounts, then at least they will have them next time a good story needs recognizing.

I saw this on the news just now. The church issued a formal statement to the effect that members shouldn't stoop the level of boycotting and should conduct themselves thoughtfully. I think that was about the gist of it.

I saw that too. I also got a bunch of the boycott emails. That's why I thought the best thing to do is point the light on the Church's official statement.

I've had some experience in getting stuff up on Digg and the massive flood of traffic that results. In my opinion it is not a good idea to use this method. The users of Digg, in general, are not a receptive audience to this type of message and all it will accomplish is to promote this show/episode further.

Plus perhaps having people sign up to digg for the express purpose of promoting this link will raise flags and harm things further.

If you remember, Tom Hanks is the guy who portrayed a 13-year-old boy fornicating with a 27-year-old woman in a popular major motion picture comedy. Now he's producing a show about polygamy; he apparently enjoys helping to portray deviant sex in the visual medium. He has recently shown he's no friend of the LDS Church or its members. Not sure what you thought was "cool" about him, but that isn't my impression.

Please forward this on through email.
Personally, I am not sure if our church leaders want us to promote a campaign to raise the search results for anything pertaining to this issue.

The Publicity Dilemma - LDS Newsroom

Perhaps you could privately email the LDS Public Affairs office with a copy of your proposal.

Respectfully,

Michael
