Hi LDS Talkers!

Many of you probably received this email from me today. I wanted to make a thread here so I had a place to keep track of all of the comments and suggestions. Incase you didn't receive the email, I'm placing a copy of it here:

As you may already know, LDS Talk was recently acquired by More Good Foundation (http://www.moregoodfoundation.org). More Good Foundation is a non-profit organization that helps persons of all faiths find accurate information about the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on the Internet. This is a very exciting time, as this was a necessary step for LDS Talk to expand and grow. I will be staying on as Admin, as will the rest of the moderating team.

In addition to working on LDS Talk, I will also be working on a variety of other LDS-related sites. These are all wonderful sites that I'm so excited to be a part of. I want to share them with you and hope you peek around and give me some feedback on them. In fact, it would be AMAZING if you could take a moment and contribute to a few of them. This is a great opportunity for you to help expand the truthfulness of the Gospel on the Internet. Please let me know your impressions and if you have any suggestions on how they could be better.

http://www.mormonwiki.com – Like Wikipedia, Mormon Wiki is a free encyclopedia about Mormons from the perspective of faithful members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. You can write or edit a page. This is an awesome site where you can really be a part of expanding the true beliefs of the Church on the Internet.

http://www.mormontestimonies.org - You are invited to share your feelings about and you believe in Jesus Christ, His restored church, and principles of His gospel. This is a great medium to share your beliefs with people from all over the world.

http://ldsblogs.com – Read articles published by expert bloggers on personal application of Gospel topics. To blog for LDSBlogs.com, please submit two or three sample blogs, a bio and picture (optional) to Candace Salima. csalima@moregoodfoundation.org.

http://www.sustaind.org – Like Digg, Sustaind is a community-driven content website where people can submit and vote on their favorite LDS-oriented web pages and news stories.

http://www.ldsforums.com – Additional forums with others members to converse with. This is a great place to talk with friends of other faiths about the Church

I hope that you will enjoy all of these new sites. It’s exciting to implement all of these fun features for the community to enjoy.

Best wishes,

Heather

Maybe I'm blind, but I went to the More Good Foundation website and didn't any references or links to this site. I did see a link to LDSForums.com, but not LDSTalk. If this site is part of them, why are they not promoting it? Or did I miss the link?

I've perused the More Good Foundation a bit. There are some strange links on there, including a website for black members. I'm not sure why such a thing exists, and I know it's not sanctioned by the Church. I don't know, it's just a little weird to me.

Links need to be updated. We're in the process of redesigning the main site, so I think they're going going to wait and list it then.

the_jason - what was the black site? Could you ever see the Church sanctioning any social type of site like this?

Not unless they felt it would be equally appropriate to have a site for white members.

It's called blacklds.org, and while it's not officially sanctioned by the church, it is affiliated with FAIR, which in my understanding is a pretty pro-LDS group. As long as they promote the beliefs of and in the LDS church, I see no harm in it. Blacks are quite a minority on the church, especially in the US, and if members of color can meet and share their collective testimonies of the gospel to each other, what's the problem? It's not like they are meeting online to plot against the church.

You may be thinking about the Genesis Group. It is actually a Church organization for black LDS members who help new black members feel more at ease in their intergration into a "white" church. You might consider it a set of "training wheels" that black members can use while they get their bearings.

Click here for more about the organization: http://www.ldsgenesisgroup.org/

Edited to include.......The Genesis Group is making a film covering the subject of blacks in the Church and you can see a trailer on it at: http://www.untoldstoryofblackmormons.com/

And here's a presentation with more details... http://www.mormonstories.org/blacksandtheldspriesthood/

Default Hi

I have used the blacklds many times, as there stil are many in countries outside USA who believe, that blacks are/were somehow less valued in out church. Might help some of our brothers and sisters to consider LDS.

Just a new function that might be cool.. every member who so wishes could mark her/his place where they are living on a map.... would that be possible??
