So, he calls me up. My phone says the call lasted fourteen
minutes.

I tell him I'm reading the book of Mormon online and the Gospel
Principles. I mentioned you all! I said I have been chatting online
with members of the LDS church and they said to get in touch with
missionaries. Then I just let it all out - I want my Heavenly Father
in my life. I want to call myself a Nephite. I want the hate out of me
and replaced with love. I want to join the flock of Jesus. Other stuff.

I tell him I can't meet with him this week or next week, but I do
want to meet with them in a few weeks from now. I'm just calling
to let him know I'm here.

I told him I was calling on faith. I tell him I'm never called
anybody like this before (about religion).

He asked if I have read about Joseph Smith and I tell the truth - I have
read very little about him. Only what I've read so far in the Book of Mormon.

He said something about it being unusual for non LDS people to seek
out the prophets or something like I was doing. I'm not sure. I told him
I was thru Book of Mosiah and he mentioned that was his favorite.

I told him two or three times that I have fallen in love with the Gospel
Principles. He asked if I had a copy of them and I said no, I've only
been reading them online. He said he would try to get me a copy
of it.

I can't say anymore. Not because I don’t want to but because
I'm not sure know what was said! I was nervous thru the whole
thing but just had to say what I did.

He did say something about him being at that church for only
seven weeks and missionaries get moved around a lot.

That's all I can say.

That is wonderful news, congratulations Hoosier. You'll find that these young missionaries are very friendly and really show the love of Jesus Christ, because He is all they talk about all day long. I loved it when I was a missionary and that's all I did all day. I hope you're able to meet them real soon.

Thank you. I hope I did not put him off when I was opening up
to him like I did.

In December I had three goals for January - go to church (or meet
with missionaries) was my number one goal. I just did number one. Maybe
it would be better to say I did 1/2 of goal number one. But I did
it!

I don’t know how I got thru the first one minute of the conversation.
I dot know how I got thru the first three minutes. I don’t know how
I got thru the first five minutes. Hey, I do know! It was my Heavenly
Father that got me thru it!

Tonight when I pray, I'm going to thank my Heavenly Father over
and over and over again!

That's fantastic news! I'm so glad somebody finally picked up the phone and then called you back. I can't imagine what was going through that missionary's mind when you called (somewhere along the lines of amazement and gratitude). What he said about not staying in the ward for too long is true... so it's a good thing to make friends with one of the members so you don't end up feeling alone. I know how hard it is to go to church when I have nobody there to support me.. but it's great to have someone especially to keep you up to speed on any new activities or changes within the ward. Maybe I'm getting way ahead of myself, but that's just something helpful. I hope you can meet with the missionaries sometime soon... I'm so excited for you!

Alma chapter 5. Another powerful chapter. That hits me hard.
I want to get baptized. I want to do the good works. I want
to be numbered with the righteous.

I pray that the missionary I talked to Tuesday night calls me
back. I hope I did not scare him off or something.

Default Congratulations!

I am so proud of you and so excited too! What a wonderful time in your life. You're at the beginning of a wonderful road that will take you through some great experiences and growth. Good for you!
I have been amazed at your understanding of the scriptures as you've read them. Most people have a really hard time understanding them and applying them to their lives in the current day but it seems as though you've been able to do that from day one. You've obviously had the Spirit with you from the very beginning; what a wonderful blessing!
I'm very excited for you to be at this point in your life. I know what it's like to be painfully shy. I'm glad you're able to put your trust in the Lord, that's exactly where it should be. He will always strengthen you and lead you to the right place for you to be.
Love ya!

Hi, HoosierGuy.

I have just spent the last hour and a half reading this thread.
I recognized my self in almost all your questions.
When I first met with the missionaries and began to read the book of Mormon I had a lot of questions and felt really stupid asking, but then I got good understandable answers both from the missionaries and from what I read in the book of Mormon.
I first met the missionaries at the end of March 2007 and was baptized June 9th. 2007. My puzzle was complete, I still ask questions and will always do that I guess??
I have found that to read in the book of Mormon every day helps me in a positive way.
I to have been walking around and have slept with the though of Jesus and my Heavenly Father in the back of my head ever since I began to read and learn more about the gospel.
I do not feel confident enough in my knowledge of the gospel to go share it with everyone in a blog etc. but it is a major part of my life and I have felt what good it gives me and my small family every day, even though we have a lot to learn still!!
I have had a hard time opening up about attending this church, if people don`t ask I don`t say anything about it, but a few times I have and have not had it thought out what to say about it. Somehow I have managed to answer peoples questions in a way they accept anyway and I am sure that is with the help of the Holy Ghost.
I look forward to follow this thread further to see how it goes.
I really hope that you will find what you are looking for

Hanne Line

Ok here is where I stand
right now: my car is ready to go (transferred insurance over to
it) and I'm ready to go to!

I have not received the Book of Mormon yet and I called for it
a few weeks ago. I still want it so badly!

The missionary has not called back. Is that a bad sign? He asked
if he could call me Wednesday and I said sure, call anytime. Maybe
he planed to call back next week? I did say I could not meet with
him till a few weeks from now. Maybe he thought of waiting till
next week or so to call back?

I'm ready to meet with the missionaries if they will and want to
meet with me. I would like to meet them in a neutral place.
When I talked to the missionary on the phone he said he could
schedule a visit to my place but I asked if we could meet in a
neutral place. He suggested the church and he said he could
also show me around the church. I said that would be fine.
The church would be ok with me. Now, I have not walked
into a church alone since - never! Last time I went to a church
to attend church was when I was seven or eight. It's going to
be a strange feeling walking into one. My soul wants to.
My heart wants to. But my body, my reflexes, they are going
tense up just walking up to that church.

I would like to meet with the missionaries this coming week and
maybe attend church next Sunday if it would be ok. I'm ready.
I'm nervous. I really don’t want to go alone. I don’t want people
to think I'm a 35 year crazy person or something. But I want to go.

What do I do know? Do I try to call the missionaries again?
The missionary number in the phone book is not the number my
cell phone recorded when the missioary called Tuesday night.
I still have the number the missionary used to call with.
Do I call that number? Do I call the church on Sunday and ask
again to have their missionaries call me?

I would like to meet with the missionaries this coming week. I'm also
going to be checking out some job openings. It would be great
if I talked with the missionaries on Monday or Tuesday, looked for
work Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, and end it all by going to
church on Sunday.

I think I want two copies of the Book of Mormon.
One to keep at home and one to keep in the car.

You have a great plan outlined. Stick to it- you're headed in a good direction. Give 'em a call back & tell them you're ready to meet and you need a book of mormon.
