Welcome to this website. I'm sure you'll make many good friends here. I commend you on your desire to become a member of the church. Sometimes the most rewarding decisions are the most difficult to make. I hope we can help you find your way.

Well that is probably the happiest thing you could post on a site like this!!! My brother-in-law(BIL) grew up Catholic and his parents struggled when he joined the church as well. But, with time, they have worked it through. I think they needed to get over their misconceptions and my BIL was really patient with them and let them have their reactions. Leaving the Catholic church is so big. It is almost as big as leaving the Mormon Church. My brother left the faith and my parents were devastated. But they are fine now and letting my brother live his life without their parental pushing. I think generally, it all eventually works itself out.

My entire family is protestant and it is very hard for them to accept my soon to be baptism. I'm glad I don't live with them still though because then it would be really hard. When you find this church it is beautiful, don't let anyone tear you away from it.

Do you still live with your parents Elizabeth? I hope they will grow to respect your wishes as both you and they find out more about the church. If you do live with them would they object to missionaries coming round to teach you?

Dog Story
There is a story of a man who went for a walk with his dog in the country. Of course the dog would jaunt in the creeks and water all around. When the dog comes back to its master, of course it shakes and shakes to the dismay of the owner. He tries to block himself from the ''dog-shower'. This is sometimes how it can be if you want to learn about Christ's church. I am glad to see that you have been simply welcomed and not bombarded with doctrinal verbiage (see theh proper def of verbiagte), and made to feel like you are being overwhelmed by the shower of doctrine, stories, etc. etc. If a young boy of 14 can receive his testimony so can you, and each of us for that matter. I do bear testimony that your pursuit will get better and better as you get closer to the Spirit. Please let us know if you have any question, we leave the ball in your court.
All the best dicovering your own gifts of the spirit.
Abraham

Your parents will come around eventually when they realize the common beliefs between the LDS church and the Catholic church, and see the happiness that it's provided you. Of course, I don't know anything about them, but whatever happens things will work out for the better because you have the gospel in your life. Even if your family and friends turn you away, the companionship of the Holy Ghost and the love you feel from your Father in Heaven and the members of your ward will keep things looking up.

I was lutheran. I was 30 when babtised, my mother was very sad. I did not want to hurt her, but I KNEW that what I did was right. She has changed her view and thinks it is ok... It will be a difficult but right decition! It is your life...your eternal life in question.
