Employment issues
My family could really use everyone's prayers. DH just found out that his employer is cutting everyone's hours. We will lose about $300 a month because of this. We are struggling financially as it is, even with help from the church. This will really, really hurt us big-time. He's already working two jobs and is almost never home, and I've been looking for part-time work for weeks while also trying to attend school (for which I get financial aid) and taking care of our three daughters. We just really need prayers right now please.

Ditto...my wife works for San Diego Union-Tribune, largest newspaper company in San Diego county she also received a cut in pay. The paper company is facing a sell off or bankruptcy.
I truly feel for you.

I will pray for you. My husband got a pay cut recently and we lost $800 a month. It's been really upsetting, but I just found out we got our tax return. That will be helpful for a while.

Thank you everyone. I really appreciate the kind words and prayers.
MorningStar, my heart goes out to you. Sounds like you're even worse off than we are. We also are expecting a nice tax return, but I have no idea when it will show up. The IRS's site has no info on it yet, and I'm worried it never got to them to begin with.

I just wanted to give everyone an update. It has been decided by DH's employer that the cut in hours will not take effect until the next fiscal year, which begins in July. This will buy us some time at least. The hope is that the economy will improve enough in the next few months that the cut in hours will no longer be necessary.
I appreciate everyone's prayers. I'm sure that had a hand in this reprieve.

Definitely praying for you. Look for ways to trade liabilities for assets.
Sell:
CDs
Books
DVDs
Clothes
Musical Instruments (like that trumpet you pooped out on after a month of lessons)
Sporting Goods (like dad's bowling ball he only uses once a year)
Tools
Jewelry
Car(s)
Motorcycle(s)
ATV(s)
Everything that you don't need to make income.
Buy:
Whatever makes income. This is the toughest part for most people. This could be equities (like stocks), it could be small business investments (like a silk-screen press or a sewing machine), it could be a taxi cab. This is where your creativity must get the use it was designed for.
But be careful. Try to buy something that if it doesn't make you money it can at least be sold again. Selling one's CD collection to pay for professional photos to get a modeling career going should only be for those objectively seeing undeniable signals of success, and by that I don't mean good looks. LOL.
Gotta lawn mower? How many neighbors can afford your services? How about a neighbor that needs their house cleaned? Try an add on craigslist.com for grocery shopping services. Believe it or not, there ARE people with so much money and so little time that they pay people to go to the grocery store for them.
There are a million and one ways to make things happen, all we have to do is get our thinking caps out.

I second the part about selling items you have. Ebay and Amazon have been my best friends lately. I'm not getting rich, certainly, but every little bit helps.
How about a yard sale? Whatever doesn't sell, put it on Ebay, Amazon, Craigslist, your local newspaper, etc. If your local newspaper doesn't offer free classified advertising, see if you know anyone who works for the paper and can put in the ad for you. Employees often get free or discounted advertising.
