Need Advice on Spreadsheet
Hi all! This Sunday, to my surprise and delight, I was given another
calling! I'm not sure the name, but it deals with Emergency Preparedness.
Basically, the Ward filled out a survey with emergency equipment they
have that could be used in case of a disaster. I was told my job will be
to enter this information on a spreadsheet.
My question is - what spreadsheet do you all recommend? I need something simple, easy to use, easy to burn to cd and share with others
on cd, cheap or free, and a little customizable.
I'm getting more information this Tuesday evening on my new calling. But I want to get a start now on what spreadsheet I should use. My Bishop said use something like Excel or something. I don’t think I have Excel and have never used it. He didn't say to use Excel exactly, just
any spreadsheet.
What do you all recommend?
Thanks!

I think Excel is the easiest to use. Also, most people have excel on their own computers, so it's easy to share info.

If you've purchased a computer any time after like 1995 it will most likely come with either Microsoft Office (with Excel) or Microsoft Works (with Microsoft Works Spreadsheet). If you don't have either of these on your computer, look for other programs that fit the description of "office productivity" that you might have installed. If you have none and are poor like me, and don't want to pirate (unlike me) then you can go to www: OpenOffice.org - The Free and Open Productivity Suite and get a free office productivity suite that includes a spreadsheet program and is fully compatible with MS Office. I've never used Open Office so I can't comment on its usability or user friendliness.
Congrats on the new calling!

HoosierGuy,
Wow, another calling along with Emergency Prep? Dang, you wont have a life now! They recently also made me the Adult Single Rep for the ward and Im like .... Really?
What they are asking you to do is probably organize all the things that your ward might need in an emergency. These are things like ....
1) Pick up trucks
2) Earth moving equipment - Back hoes - that sort of thing.
3) Generators - Size and fuel capacity/ run time etc
4) Members who have farms that might have fuel tanks
5) members with water wells.
So, you might use an excel spreadsheet with the first column with the equipment, 2nd description, and third who has it, and thier contact number, cell number and addy. Keep it simple. Then print it out, and put it in a safe place. Dont expect your PC to be able to run in an emergency.
As for the second calling - well, good luck! My Emergency coordinator calling takes all of my spare time.

WordFlood I told Hoosier to contact you that you would be more than willing and able to help him in his new calling.

Pam,
That works for me. I have the Today and Tomorrow off for my day job, so I'm working in the home office pretty much the next two days on the emergency prep fair but I'd be happy to talk to him anytime. He can email me at staff@ldsready.org or he can call me if he wishes. Have him send an email with a request for my phone number and I'd be happy to give that to him. He may wish to go to the LDSready website and download that manual on the first page. Thats a great place to start. Then he can modify it anyway he wants.

Thanks WordFlood. I was suppose to meet the person who was going to
inform me more on my calling on Tuesday but it got cancelled - he did not have all the information ready yet. So we are going to meet this Sunday after services. After Sunday if I’m totally lost (or not), I will contact you
if I need any help. Much Thanks! This Sunday - I get my first TempleInterview and more info on my second calling! And last night Moses 4 blew me away! Sweet!

Hoosier,
Thats no problem. You will make your calling your own, which is the great thing about the church! Just letting you know if you need some help or ideas, I'm totally open to helping. But, most of my stuff is on the website so its there if you need it.
I've been up to my eyeballs with getting my booth ready for the emergency prep fair. I wanted to demo some osmosis water filters, and had a challenge with that - Someone put up the Red Flag (which sometimes happens in church - Too much in my opinion!) and the demo was off. But my Bishop came to my rescue, and I am ready to show people this amazing technology. A filter than can filter water down to 3-5 angstroms! - WITHOUT A PUMP!!!! just watch it work by itself! No batteries, no pump!
Anyways, can you tell I'm excited! HAHA!
