Thumbs up Food Storage is still good?

Just a quick note as to how helpful lds.org can be on our food storage. My mom is packing up and moving to UT from MO. She was going to throw away all of her food storage because the dates on the cans were outdated. Luckily at our Relief Society Birthday celebration we had a small demonstration on food storage and the new guidelines. I was able to tell her the new guidelines and directed her to the lds.org/providentliving page so she could read it for herself. Now her food storage is still good and packed and ready for the move to UT and not tossed out. We all should make use of the tools and information we have readily avialable to us and pass information on to others who need it.

I gotta tell you though...if the beans are over about 7 years old you will need to pressure cook them otherwise they're pretty hard.

Beans should never make it to 7 years old in the first place. Buy what you eat, eat what you buy.

For instance, if I have a year's supply of wheat, I might be a little over or a little under, but I still have a year's supply on hand and the wheat I eat is never more than about a year old.

What I currently do is I have two years worth of food stored, so the food I bought in 2007 is eaten now in 2008 and the food I'm buying right now in 2008 will be eaten in 2009. Even if I bought a little too much, it will still be eaten up by early 2010. So I always have plenty on hand and it's always really fresh by food storage standards.
