Default Coming Soon: Federal Government Recognition of Gay Marriage

Yep, it's coming soon. Dianne Feinstein introduced a private bill on April 22nd, 2009 to give immigration relief to Shirley Constantino Tan. Miss Tan entered the US on a tourist visa in 1989 with the intent to stay permanently in the US. In 1995, she applied for asylum and this asylum was denied. In the intervening years, she had two boys through artificial insemination and in 2004, she "married" her lesbian partner.

The private bill would provide her with immigration relief based on her relationship in a run to a new law working it's way through Congress to recognize gay marriage and civil union for immigration purposes.

OpenCongress - U.S. Congress - S.867 A bill for the relief of Shirley Constantino Tan.

There are several issues with this, so pick one.

1) Shirley Tan entered the country illegally. She may have entered on a tourist visa, but her intents wasn't to stay temporarily. Since she lied upon entry, she entered illegally.

2) Even the Federal Government didnt believe the claims on her asylum application.

3) Federal recognition of these relationships for immigration purposes has a huge impact on everything and would necessitate the states recognizing the marriages/relationships, even if they didn't want to. Other federal agencies would need to recognize them as well.

I particularly find this disturbing because at the same time the US federal government is planning on giving immigration relief to illegal aliens in gay marriages, they are preparing to deport thousands of families who through NO FAULT OF THEIR OWN will be declared illegal aliens starting November 28th.

What Is Happening In Saipan? | Alien Rights In Saipan

I think it's dangerous to let them pass this bill into law and allow a single gay marriage to be recognized for immigration benefits. It's just the beginning of a slippery slope.

The country is changing. There is no longer a clear moral sense because we have developed a personality cult society and we covet wealth, fame and fortune while removing God from everyday life. We idealize people whose sole existence is based on the marketing of completely intangible, unproductive and socially irrelevant activities.

We are becoming slowly a nation of illiterate, oblivious and insensitive people. We are seduced day and night by baseless philosophical/social notions and theories driven by pleasure seeking ideals rather than solid foundational principles. By removing God as a guiding principle for law, government and social justice, there is no longer a clear divide between right or wrong.

Ethics just to be based on Judeo-Christian values. We are moving away from ethics and into the era of social constrains based, for the most part, on the rule and worldview of the corrupted political class. This change in immigration is but the tip of the iceberg.

Sad future.

Yep, for the better! It's about time we stopped marginalizing and demonizing entire classes of people just because they are different from us.

Well if we went back to pure Judeo-Christian ethics, we'd have slavery, witch-burning, stoning homosexuals to death, women keeping silent in church, etc. Personally, I'd like to think we've progressed since then. Let's not go back.

I think this is all much ado about nothing. Gay marriages or not, life will continue on as it has before. One day your grandchildren will ask you what all the hoopla over gay marriage was all about. In the same way that we can see the follies of our ancestors in hindsight, so will our descendents look at our current fears of gay marriage as foolishness.

I have some concerns:

If they deport her, what happens to her children? They're American citizens - Born and raised, regardless of the sins of the mother.

Is she still currently married? Where was she married? What are their plans about that contract?

This is hardly the destructive thing people are making it out to be. My only concern right now would be those kids.

One step closer for this nation to reap the destructive powers of the angels of death...

Eventually the people of this nation will become apathetic and allow such changes in the land while doing nothing. This is following the same pattern of those five cities of the plain. In the end, the Lord had to remove them when lawlessness was rampant as revealed with Lot and his family dealing of the City of Sodom.

Rico, are you saying we shouldn't allow gays to immigrate? I'm not sure I agree with that.

As for Saipan: The Northern Marianas had an option for independence decades ago, and elected instead to seek closer ties with the US--which process has been moving forward slowly but inexorably since that time. And, though this is admittedly harsh, there is fault on the part of those who are to be declared illegals. They rolled the dice, gambling that US law would never be applied in a US territory. They lost.
