Report: Reid chides Mormon Prop 8 backers
ARTICLE EXCERPT: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) the most powerful Mormon elected official in the country, criticized members of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for bankrolling California's anti-gay marriage Proposition 8 during a meeting with gay and lesbian activists, the Salt Lake City Tribune is reporting.
Reid reportedly made the comments -- his first to date on his church's activities on behalf of the Prop 8 movement -- during a closed door meeting with LGBT activists on the eve of last weekend's big DC rally, Matt Canham reports:

Politicians bow to their masters. The question is- do they serve God or mammon?
Really not surprised that Reid did this.

I would like to hear him say that in front of cameras before I take someone else's word. I don't doubt this is something he would say, especially this part
Quote:
Reid spokesman Jon Summers would not discuss the private meeting, but he didn't deny the conversation took place.
"While Senator Reid agrees with his church that marriage is between a man and a woman," Summers said, "he also believes that the resources that went into the Proposition 8 effort could have been put to better use."

seeing how he's a Democrat and all the 'can't we all just get along'-speak that Dems seem to say a lot. But the devil is in the details, or in this case the phrases used by the good senator.

I remember an online poll that asked "what person would you like to hit in the face". I just hate it has to be a mormon.
Actually, I would not expect anything different from him. How he can say and do the things he does and also stay in good standing with the church is beyond me. I find it funny that so many yell that Glenn Beck does not represent mormonism, but noone says anything about Harry Reid.

Reid is in trouble......he may lose in the next election......as Glen Beck stated....politicians say whatever to get elected.....sounds like he might be on the campaign trail already.

i dont trust "sound bites", they are always taken out of context.
while this may be absolutely true (Reid's quote),i'd prefer to read the entire talk on the subject and THEN hang him....lol.....jk.
politics has always represented the devil's church to me....just my opinion...and if you dont agree, thats fine. i'm not looking to get into any kind of debate about it.
seems to me that a successful politician has always been able to play both sides against the middle, while they appear to be fostering one side or other and very little gets done.....but they keep their jobs, and all the "perks" that may be borderline legal/illegal just because it's been done for so long.
seems clear to me, if this is an accurate quote, that this man has some issues with who he represents and who he is.
fact is, his statement may be concerning who he represents, and NOT who he is, or how he would like to vote. isnt that what politicians are supposed to do? do you think this might be the fact in this case?
ok, ok...so i like to give the benefit of the doubt when i'm not sure.
i am a war veteran....a POLITCAL war, not one against terrorism, but about making a politcal statement to the world....yes, viet nam.
and i am proud to say that i volunteered for it, and that i dont regret it.
but that also means i paid my dues......and i can also take pride in saying that i have never registered or voted in my life. i am 57.
and my conscience is clear....
