Thoughts on the new book, Teachings of The Prophet Joseph Smith. to be used in Priesthood and RS for the next TWO years, and donations requested as they are NOT free? Are other wards requesting donation?

No donations on this side of the world. Well not that I know of anyway. But definitely looking forward to studying Joseph Smith much much more in depth. I have 3 copies.... just don't tell my Bishop

I haven't heard that, but if I'm asked for a donation to get one I'll be listening to others read out of their books. Maybe the ward can have a few 'passaround' books they can pass out and then collect again at the end of each lesson?

For many years I have given a dollar for the priesthood manual. In some wards it is taken care of by the ward budget. In those that can, never seen it be a requirement for one, they give a dollar, in those that can't or don't it doesn't keep them from getting one, or more.

please understand it is not about the 2 dollars, as i can certainly afford it. i have just never heard of this practice in the 8 yrs i have been active as an adult. and i have been in at least 10 wards during that time.

I wonder if it because a private company might have the copyright.

I am really excited for this book, i hadnt heard it was teachings of the porphet JOseph.

I can imagine all the fights in elders quorum though.

Yes you can get one online. Go to lds.org and find the distribution center link. You can order most of the church materials there.

ok, so this past sunday, they were passed out to all, and we were asked to contribute 2-3 dollars on the "other" line with our tithes and offerrings. i felt much better about it, as it didn't feel like we were being charged for it, which is how it came across the first time it was brought up.of course, i will contribute, as that was not my objection...just the way it was pronounced from the pulpit.
