Three Hour Glucose Test
I had to take that today after failing the one hour yesterday. They called me within a couple hours with the results. Today I waited 6 hours and no call, so I was hopeful that no news was good news. But then I called them and they said they didn't get the results yet, so I have to wait until tomorrow.
Do you think this is a good sign my sugar levels were fine? I really hope so. I did great during the test except for feeling like I had to throw-up the whole time because of drinking that sugar stuff on an empty stomach. Yesterday I got a headache right after drinking it, but today I did fine - no headache or anything. Years ago I had the three hour and first I got a terrible headache and blurred vision, then I got the shakes and felt like I was going to pass out. I actually got low blood sugar that time because my body overcompensated.
I'm really hoping I don't have gestational diabetes. I'll worry too much and I don't want to deal with poking my fingers - I don't care about the diet change though.

When I took that test during my pregnancy it took almost a week to get the results. But then again that was 17 years ago.

I thought they did away with that stupid glucose test! They can test your blood with out the crappy syrup- you just have to fast for a minimum of 8 hours and a max of 10 hours.
The time it takes depends on whether they have to send it to a lab, how far away the lab is, how much work was ahead of yours. So call tomorrow and ask questions.
Where do you send the lab work? Can you give me an estimated time for the results?
Are you a prime candidate for gestational diabetes? If you aren't, then why are they jolting your system with that junk?

In my area, all pregnant women get the glucose test between 24 and 28 weeks. My fasting glucose was normal and if I did have diabetes, giving me a load of sugar is the last thing I need. I was expecting quick results because of how fast I got the 1 hour test back. I'm calling first thing in the morning. I hate it when they keep me hanging.

I had to take that stupid thing THREE TIMES when I was pregnant.
The first time I took it I threw up the orange syrup stuff, so they scheduled to re-do it.
The second time, the nurse apparently did something wrong when collecting my blood afterwards, so they rescheduled a second time.
The third time it took them 20 minutes to find a vein, but they got the sample intact and everything was negative. Well sheesh, I could have told them that! But they give them to you if you are high risk or no risk.
I was glad too, gestational diabetes diets suck. I had high blood pressure, so that diet was bad enough.

they do them here with everyone. i always showed to high with the short test and had to redo with the long test. man i hate those, i still won't drink orange soda now. blah this last pregnancy i told the dr, look after 4 times we know i'm going to have to redo it, so lets just save us all some time and skip to the punch line. he went for it!! lol i've always showed fine with the long test and not had any issues. i have no idea why the short test always shows high and the long is fine.
just cause you had to do the long it could mean nothing. try not to stress it till you know.

I had that test done with both my pregnancies, cos I had ++++Ketones in my water sample at the Ante Natal clinic..both times I was classed as Borderline Diabetic so didn't require any treatment, fortunately...nowadays I do have Type 2 Diabetes and have found that some women who have Gestational Diabetes are more likely to develop Type 2 Diabetes later in life, but I don't know if this is the reason in my case..
Good Luck with your results!

When I was a teen, my mother and two sisters had type2 Diabetes. Every blasted year I had to go in for the three hour test! After 5 years and a new Dr. She told me never again with the gloucose, because that many times can give you diabetes.
Pee on a strip, or take blood just for the test after a fast. Yes I am Type 2 Diabetic now. Did not eat healthy.
The Dr I have now hasn't done a 3 hour glucose test in nearly a decade.
I don't have time right now to peruse the National Diabetic web site- but I would start there to educate myself on whether or not the 3 hour syrup guzzling test is really necessary.

Two out of four of my blood draws were high, so they say I have gestational diabetes. I have been using a glucometer since yesterday and not one of my readings has been over 100 - 97 was the highest, so I'm a bit skeptical right now but figure a diabetic diet won't hurt me. If I have another baby, I will go straight to testing at home. I refuse to do that test again.

I never understood that darn drink..
My midwives just took my fasting level, then I ate a big breakfast-- eggs, yogurt sausage---
it was more accurate to my regular diet and tasted better
I wish you the best..
