BOM - Personal Journal
This is my personal study journal of the Book of Mormon. I am writing this to keep my thoughts straight and take notes from my readings. Feel free to read and comment as I go through the book.
1 Nephi 1:1 - 1 Nephi 5:22
I learned that Lehi was the father of Nephi. This seems to be an introduction into the family. Lehi was very rich... apparently very very rich. He how ever received a revelation from God in the form of a vision and decided to give every thing up, while taking his family with him. This was not something any one in his family liked, except his youngest son Nephi. Nephi did not even enjoy this, but tolerated it because he had trust in his father and in God.
They ended up living in tents out in the forest. Nephi had to travel back to Jerusalem to get their property back, and was promptly robbed by a guy named Laben(Who was a serious jerk). Nephi received divine revelation from an angel, who sent him on a mission even after having failed numerous times. I also noticed that even after beheading Laben, Nephi sought only his mission, and there was no text about him getting any of his goods back.
Nephi did how ever bring a servant back with him, and through this mission, the faith of his mother was strengthened in the Lord. I don't think his brothers were too impressed yet though.

I hope no one minds if I have my own thread that I keep notes in as I read the Book. I don't really expect it to be jam packed with revelations that really strike any one, but it will help me make sure that I am learning things as I go through the book.
A wiki would probably be cool, but I don't have the time to put one together, and I doubt any one would read it if I did. lol.... So As long as there are no objections by the moderators, this will be my learning box. =)
Which reminds me... I assume that Leban had that expensive sword made with the goods he stole from Nephi... Which I think is an allusion to the fact that our wealth and ill gotten gains could be our very own down fall...

Jones, each book I do study, I do write my impression in my journal. This year alone, I have over 355 pages. I found that electronic journals are allot easier to maintain than hand writing.
Welcome to the forum....

This is a great place to share your insights. Our own administrator, Heather, is doing virtually the same thing:
Book of Mormon Scripture Reading - LDS Mormon Forums (The top thread entitled "1 Nephi")
We all have posted our thoughts on scriptural matter. Yours are welcome here as well. As you read the Book of Mormon over and over again in your life you will find your understanding of it evolve. If I may add, when Lehi went out into the wilderness with his family the land of Jerusalem and the surrounding area was a desert wilderness. I remember once visualizing a forest until I realized where they lived and what the area was like. You will also pick up on these things as you go along.
Best wishes.

I started doing that a while back, but just with my husband. There were so many things we noticed that I wished we had written down and now we're starting it as a family for the 4th time. I'm going to take notes this time through the whole thing.

Bible wiki
I would think that a online personal commentary would be a great thing, only if it doesn’t become a place of ‘Bible bashing’, that is where people say a verse says this, and you say it says that, I wouldn’t like a wiki site if it just erases what you said if another person doesn’t like it, the creators of Wikipedia tried to make a wiki of the Bible, and it got shut down for that reason.
