faith in the scriptures
I read three awsome chapters on faith...
1. Ether 12; Moroni talks about faith, what it is, what it takes
2. Hebrews 11; goes along with Moroni's talk
3. Alma 24; Anti-Nephi-Lehies are slain by Lamanites because Anti-Nephi-Lehies refused to fight Lamanites because the "refuse to stain their swords with the blood of their brethren"

Faith is a subject well worth study and contemplation. Thanks for the post!
"And when we gain knowledge in that thing that we *used* to
have faith in, then that new knowledge introduces us to new
realms of possibility, in which we can now exercise new faith.
So, rather than knowledge eliminating faith, what it does is
spark or create whole new vistas in which faith for the
first time becomes active."

I love how it says in Alma 32 how our faith can grow into knowledge on one particular point and then our faith becomes dormant in that thing.
Alma 32:34
34 And now, behold, is your knowledge perfect? Yea, your knowledge is perfect in that thing, and your faith is dormant; and this because you know, for ye know that the word hath swelled your souls, and ye also know that it hath sprouted up, that your understanding doth begin to be enlightened, and your mind doth begin to expand.

To me, Faith has it's most powerful expression when focused in Christ. Seeking Him. Making Friends with Him. Counseling with Him. Trusting in Him.
Having that "moment to moment" "life in Christ" experience is something everyone should have. It is possible. I have it ... and I am probably one of the weakest most pathetic mortals around. Meaning, without Him, I am nothing. With Him, I am everything.
This experience with Him gives me hope in a glorious resurrection. I don't have to worry about my efforts being "good enough" -- because I am not doing those things to earn "brownie points" for something that I cannot deserve or earn anyway. My own efforts will never be enough, no matter how perfect my obedience. Only His grace makes my obedience efficacious.
One I have Hope in Christ....I begin to experience actual Charity. Charity and personal revelation are bound together. Since only God knows someone's needs, we cannot have His Love seperate and apart from having Him reveal the needs of others unto us!

I love Ether 12 because of these two things:
6 And now, I, Moroni, would speak somewhat concerning these things; I would show unto the world that afaith is things which are bhoped for and cnot seen; wherefore, dispute not because ye see not, for ye receive no dwitness until after the etrial of your faith.
27 And if men come unto me I will show unto them their aweakness. I bgive unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my cgrace is sufficient for all men that dhumble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make eweak things become strong unto them.
27 above, I really love.
And the Anti-Nephi-Lehies, they are my heroes. All 1005 of them. They are my heroes.
21 Now when the people saw that they were coming against them they went out to meet them, and aprostrated themselves before them to the earth, and began to call on the name of the Lord; and thus they were in this attitude when the Lamanites began to fall upon them, and began to slay them with the sword.
22 And thus without meeting any resistance, they did slay a athousand and five of them; and we know that they are blessed, for they have gone to dwell with their God.
Along with Abinadi, Nephi, Lehi, and Alma, and of course Jesus Christ, the Anti-Nephi-Lehies are my heroes and I would lie flat down on my face with them and call upon the Lord and face the attack of our enemy. At least I tell myself I would do that. I also tell myself I would stand with Abinadi and face the fire with him and never deny the words of our Lord.
I know where these people stand - with Jesus Christ. And that is where I want and try to stand - with our Brother and Savior and Friend, Jesus Christ.

Talking about the Jaredites and the scriptures carried forth to the new world, we do know through FAITH, Adam kept a Book of Remembrance. Only a few fragmentary statements from which have been passed down through the years to us [read Moses 6:5]. Today, we have no authentic or canonized records of the writings of Seth, Enos, Cainan, Mahalaleel, Jared, Methusaleh, or even my good friend - Noah. All who lived before the flood and all of who were great prophets.
Even, through the Prophet Joseph Smith we now have only a portion of Enoch's prophecies and preachings that has been revealed is pale in comparison. All of these pre-deluge prophets records, I assumed, were possessed by the Jaredites. We look to the latter deluge prophets, namely, Shem, Melchizedek, Esaias, Gad, Jeremy, Elihu, Caleb, and Jethro, were are those records? Then we have many races and peoples, whose very existence is unknown in the modern world, who had revelations and scripture given to them.
Getting back to my venting, we have only a minor part of the scriptures had by the Jaredites. We are told, there were many records in the hands of Mormon when he compiled, abridged, and wrote upon the plates. None of which records are known to us now. According to President Brigham Young, there was in the Hill Cumorah a room containing many wagon loads of plates (Read Journal of Discourses, vol. 19, p. 38).
I would be curious to read the writings of these pre and latter deluge prophets and the events that surrounded their lives.
