Default Beware of Pride by President Benson

A friend sugested I read this and I did. Great talk by President Benson.

LDS.org - Ensign Article - Beware of Pride

Here are a few thing that hit me hard:

The proud stand more in fear of men’s judgment than of God’s judgment. (See D&C 3:6–7; D&C 30:1–2; D&C 60:2.) “What will men think of me?” weighs heavier than “What will God think of me?”

And this:

The proud depend upon the world to tell them whether they have value or not. Their self-esteem is determined by where they are judged to be on the ladders of worldly success. They feel worthwhile as individuals if the numbers beneath them in achievement, talent, beauty, or intellect are large enough. Pride is ugly. It says, “If you succeed, I am a failure.”

If we love God, do His will, and fear His judgment more than men’s, we will have self-esteem.

and:

Pride is the great stumbling block to Zion. I repeat: Pride is the great stumbling block to Zion.

I think that Pride is most peoples major hurdle in life. It does not matter how much material things they have there is still a lot of pride in rich and poor.

We can choose to humble ourselves by conquering enmity toward our brothers and sisters, esteeming them as ourselves, and lifting them as high or higher than we are. (See D&C 38:24; D&C 81:5; D&C 84:106.)

That is hard for me to do. Here I am, wanting to be better. I am jealous of some. I guess jealousy is a form of pride. And I'm suppose to esteem them lift them up higher while I feel low? I know I must and should.

Only we can conquer pride. No one can do it for us. I love how King Benjamin in his talk with his people shortly before his death reminds us or teaches us our significance and that all we have is due to the blessings the Lord has given us. Without him we are nothing and when we do what the Lord asks of us we are blessed so we have been paid. We owe him all we have and are and only him.

Pride for sure is one of my challenges to work on. My pride has gotten in the way of allowing others the blessings of service. I've really had to work on this.

Yes this is one of the classic talks from a prophet. There is even a copy of it floating around that has it look just like the scripture format (Two columns, versus, even footnotes how the scriputres are organized)

This is one of those ideas that if everybody could fully understand in our life, things would be way better! (Not just people in the church, but the world as a whole)

A personal weakness when self-esteem grows bigger than my feet.

Me too! I continually wrestle with my inner self over this.
I so love to attend the Temple, because there are so many humble members working in the Temple that are such great examples for me to emulate in losing oneself in the service and helping others.
