Start 2009 Right! Quotes from the Prophets!!!
Let’s warm up this cold winter and start 2009 with a positive attitude! Let’s go into January with a warm heart and our head held high and eyes pointing forward!
I was going to post some nice quotes from President Hinckley but then thought - why don’t we all post our favorite positive quotes from all the
Prophets in this last dispensation? So come on and let’s do it!
Please post your favorite POSTIVE quotes from any of the Prophets from Prophet Joseph Smith to Prophet Monson. I guess quotes from other Prophets are ok too but I was wanting to keep this from Joseph Smith to President Monson.
Let’s start 2009 right - post those positive quotes!

I'll start - From President Hinckley:
"Anyone who imagines that bliss is normal is going to waste a lot of time running around shouting that he has been robbed. The fact is that most putts don’t drop, most beef is tough, most children grow up to be just like people, most successful marriages require a high degree of mutual toleration, and most jobs are more often dull than otherwise. Life is just like an old time rail journey ... delays, sidetracks, smoke, dust, cinders, and jolts, interspersed only occasionally by beautiful vistas and thrilling bursts of speed. The trick is to thank the Lord for letting you have the ride."
and
"If Life Gets Too Hard To Stand, Kneel."

Joseph Smith:
"I do not dwell upon your faults, and you shall not upon mine. Charity, which is love, covereth a multitude of sins, and I have often covered up all the faults among you; but the prettiest thing is to have no faults at all. We should cultivate a meek, quiet, and peaceable spirit" - History of the Church 5:517
Wilford Woodruff:
"Brethren and sisters, you should live by faith, realizing every day that all power rests with God, and that it is through him that we are able to live in peace and enjoy plenty." - The Discourses of Wilford Woodruff, pg 222
And I know you're looking for quotes from modern prophets... But I'm going to break that rule right off the bat Because I was trying to apply this principle to my life once and was greatly blessed for my efforts... But it's so much easier to not follow these simple principles; so it's my new year's resolution
2 Peter 1:
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

"The strength of this Church lies in the purity of the thoughts and lives of its members, then the testimony of Jesus abides in the soul, and strength comes to each individual to withstand the evils of the world."

Nice. Let’s open this up to all the members who have been in the Quorum of the Twelve and First Presidency too.

President Dieter F. Uchtdorf Second Counselor in the First Presidency
No matter how bleak the chapter of our lives may look today, because of the life and sacrifice of Jesus Christ, we may hope and be assured that the ending of the book of our lives will exceed our grandest expectations. “Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.”

“Motherhood is the greatest potential influence either for good or ill in human life. The mother's image is the first that stamps itself on the unwritten page of the young child's mind. It is her caress that first awakens a sense of security; her kiss, the first realization of affection; her sympathy and tenderness, the first assurance that there is love in the world.”
David O. McKay

“Believe in Jesus Christ, our Savior and our Redeemer, the Son of God, who came to earth and walked the dusty roads of Palestine-the Son of God-to teach us the way of truth and light and salvation, and who, in one great and glorious act offered an atonement for each of us. He opened the way of salvation and exaltation for each of us, under which we may go forward in the Church and kingdom of God. Be not faithless, but believe in the great and wonderful and marvelous blessings of the Atonement.”
(Gordon B. Hinckley)

Day by day, hour by hour, man builds the character that will determine his place and standing among his associates throughout the ages. … … More important than riches, more enduring than fame, more precious than happiness is the possession of a noble character. Truly it has been said that the grand aim of man’s creation is the development of a grand character, and grand character is by its very nature the product of a probationary discipline.
David O. McKay "

President Gordon B. Hinckleytalking about dealing with sins and temptations:
Victory will be yours. There is not a person in this Church who needs to [surrender] to any of these forces. You are a child of God. You have His power within you to sustain you. You have the right to call upon God to protect you. Do not let Goliath frighten you. Stand your ground … , and you will be triumphant. …
