Thought some might be interested in seeing this site, where a guy has redone the BOM in plain English to make it easier to read. http://plainbookofmormon.com

If I read this paraphrase, could I claim that I had read the BOM?

... uh...never mind--the author says NO: This site is not intended as replacement reading of The Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ

Hundreds of thousands of LDS and investigators have just had their hopes of an easier path dashed to pieces.

I think he intended it as a supplement to help understand the BOM. Much like the plain-English versions of the Bible.

I love your websites, Outshined! When do you have time to find this stuff? My favorite is the School of Abraham. I discovered it about 5 yrs ago. Its much more user friendly now than it used to be, but I can (and have) spent days wandering around in it.

About the BofM site, I don't know. I think it would be very good for kids. I think it lacks some important and insightful subtleties. For instance;

Plain study version:
My name is Nephi. I was born to good parents who saw that I was
educated as my father was educated. I've had many trials in my life, but I've always been highly favored by the Lord. I've received great knowledge of His goodness and mysteries. Because of these things, I now make this record of my life.

Original:
I, NEPHI, having been born of goodly parents, therefore I was taught
(“therefore” implies the reason for his education was goodly parents or goodly parents are parents that educate)

somewhat in all the learning of my father;
(“somewhat” isn’t “as”. It means a little in all things)

and having seen many afflictions in
(“having seen” may mean he was able to learn from the mistakes of others)

the course of my days, nevertheless, having been highly favored of the Lord in all my days; yea, having had a great knowledge of the goodness and the
(“yea” here implies a relationship between highly favored and a knowledge of the goodness and mysteries of God)

mysteries of God, therefore I make a record of my proceedings in my days.
(“therefore” means he has responsibilities because of his testimony. “Proceedings” are defined as - to go forward, progress after an interruption or carry on a series of actions specifically to establish.)

Your site rocks, Outshined. Thanks for your service in the armed forces! I believe you have the chance to influence the world for good in a way that few can. As one whose father, uncle, older brother and sister-in-law serve/d in the Air Force, I really value the work done by our men and women in uniform. God bless America!

The Timothy Wilson who you linked to is a fraud, hack, cheat, user of women, and an abandoner of family.

For starters, his (once upon a time) latino wife wrote the book in plain english and he took credit for her work, then divorced her, left her with 4 children and went hunting a more white kind of wife.

He is a real slouch when it comes to honoring financial or other agreements, contracts, or covenants. I gagged when I saw which link you used.

To have launched into such a personal attack on the man, I trust you know him personally, or have references to back up your allegations...

We really aren't into baseless attacks on character here; it's too easy to trash someone when they cannot defend themselves.

He lived in my ward. We know his wife. We met him in a store with another woman and told us about selling 'his' book on his web page.

I don't know what kind of proof you would accept, but I don't waste my time telling the truth about just anyone.

I only send out warnings about the worst kinds of people.

Um...yeah. We're familiar with your history in that area; the anti-Christ, "brainwashing", loads of credibility...

I'll keep the link, thanks. It's more valuable than gossip.
