An interesting topic for me to explore later:

1 Ne. 22: 4
4 And behold, there are many who are already lost from the knowledge of those who are at Jerusalem. Yea, the more part of all the tribes have been led away; and they are scattered to and fro upon the isles of the sea; and whither they are none of us knoweth, save that we know that they have been led away.

Is it possible that by the time Lehi had been called to prophecy in Jerusalem that many other families or clans had made their exodus? So far we only know about Lehi's family and the Mulekites. I have done some digging and have found out about some that have gone up north towards Russia and from there who knows. I'll have to research that later.

So far I have discovered two present day cultures that have roots going back to Israel, more particularly Jerusalem, about 600 BC. They are the Lembas of Africa and the Yemen of South Arabia. I'll post more articles as I find them. For now here's an interesting read:

Jerusalem Connections to Arabia in 600 BC

On a separate note...Another link relating to Nephi and his travels:

Awesome.

I hope you post pics of those as well when you get to them!

Your talent/creativity is impressive!

I am going to show this to Michael when he gets home and have him make one for us. It would be great for Family Home Evening or our nightly scripture reading when we get to that part in the book of Mormon. The kids would love it.

I think I am going to have Michael figure out how to make us some gold plates. Great ideas...thanks skalenfehl!

BTW, if you ever did decide to sell your "ancient artifacts" let the rest of us know. I love artwork, especially if it pertains to the gospel. Selling your creations would be no different than any other artist (like Greg Olsen) selling their work!

I've been wanting to make a few more, but time is a precious commodity for me. If I do, I know Ben has wanted one and Pam has expressed an interest as have a few others. I'll see if I can crank out a few of these, maybe even make a mold and cast a few replicas. I still want to make a very elegant one of brass but that is far down the road when time and money are both abundant in my life. I really wish there were more written accounts by Joseph Smith and the early elders of the church who witnessed the artifacts. We have enough description of the gold plates to create a decent replica, but the Liahona and the sword of Laban would be purely speculative art.

Well, keep me in the loop if you do make some. I would like an opportunity to get one from you as well!

Years down the road when you have a booming internet "LDS Ancient Replicas and More" website, I can tell all my friends that I have a skalenfehl original from the early years!!!!!!
