The modern "Olympics" have been nothing but a scam starting in 1896. When the IOC was visiting SLC as part of the site selection process, it was incredible the amount of sycophancy displayed (not my first phrase) by the SLC bid committee. As my mother used to say, "It would gag a maggot."

Right now, they're just for the IOC and the network that gets the rights to sell ads to them. I wouldn't miss 'em a bit (except, maybe, for women's beach volleyball).

So, you think that somehow lowers the level of competition and human achievement? o.O

It's not just about who gets the metals. If those girls have their metals stripped, China will also take away their "rewards" for winning..."rewards" that their families need just to survive.
Its not like here where a metal is a token of your hard work...there, it means that your family can eat for a while.
So to me, thinking about what the hardships that these people face every day...and their metals make their lives easier for a while... that's what makes the whole "take their metals away" thing more difficult for me to swallow.

But what are we teaching our children or any children about the idea of sportsmanship? About obeying rules? Especially during the ultimate athletic challenge...the Olympics.

The world is not utopia pam.
We're teaching kids that imperfection is perfection.

My 2 cents

Like any other competition that has rules in place prior to the event, If anyone does not comply with " set rules " it is really very simple. They are disqualified, period.

If we put emotion or excuse in the equation, we begin to head down a dangerous road that is IMHO leads to far greater consequences.

God bless,
Carl

Soooo, by your standards, a liar is a trustworthy person;
it does not matter how you do it, just win;
you don't need to study for the test, just cheat;

And NO, that is not what I am teaching my kids. What I teach my children is...
Honesty matters and integrity matters.

Ahhhh so let me start teaching my children to lie. To cheat on tests, to steal from their employers...because hey...you are being imperfect so heyyyy you ARE perfect. That really doesn't make sense to me. Seems totally contradictory.

Actually, what popped into my mind upon reading "imperfection is perfection", was, what an asinine statement.
