Smile Congratulations NORWAY

Today 17.May is Norwegean independence day!

We selebrate it with marching and singing and marchbandplaying children... waiving flags, dressed to their best. I will make a new album for the pictures of my boys when they played in the marching band and a few pictures from earlier years. You will see the pictures in my profile.
The Russ = the gratuates they dress in the color their shool is representanting: Red is those that can go to universities. Blue are the ones that head for an occupation, Black white are tecknical... Usually many of them drink too much and make stupid things to get a dusk in their hat, stupid things like go to bed with Russ leader of the year, drink themselves under the table, spread dirt on someones sidewalk, a loooong kiss with same gender.... My son is not very interested in beeing a Russ next year. I hope he finds out other things to do like help an old lady, clean someonse garden, Help with carrying the purchases to the car.... I just wonder if he is man enough to do that! Oh and throw candy to kids... like graduates do in finland.
Here you can see some news on the day in Norway today:
Mottok barnetoget i snøvær på Skaugum - Nyheter - Kongelige - Aftenposten.no
There is under the big picture a smaller picture it says BILDER.. that menas pics...

Sweden has something very similar when students graduate. They pile into trucks with open backs -- not sure the term. So you get 30 or 40 riding in the back through the city, drinking, throwing beer on each other and passerbys, singing obnoxious songs and hopefully trying to keep their tops on. Generally when my sons have graduated I have not seen any guys making out -- from what I gather the last party that evening it's not uncommon for the girls to make out with each other -- can hardly blame them as Swedes are a pretty attractive bunch. No I am not endorsing it, just couldn't resist the naughty humor.

In finland they throw candy and I don't think they're allowed to drink while on trucks.

Hi Mailis,

Happy Norwegian Independence Day!

I am a third generation Norwegian (meaning my grandparents were born in Norway before emmigrating to North Dakota), and my grandmother used to celebrate Norwegian Independence Day when she was alive. My dad still says he celebrates it. In any case, my dear grandmother used to teach me Norwegian sayings and she was so proud of her heritage even though she moved to America. (My family was from Halingdal) I miss her lefse!

Men making out is a trend. Girls making out is not "special" any more. It got a lot worse when two male (and straight) celebrities kissed each other on tv. It broke the taboo... I wish they would stop showing it on television, what are little boys supposed to think?
