Healthy Recipes

So, you just took the Nutrition Quiz and now you want to eat healthy.  This is a chance to share some of our favorite recipes or tips.

One of my favorite tips is to replace lettuce with spinach in my salads and on my sandwhiches.  Helps with anemia and has calcium.

I make my spaghetti sauce in the crockpot so it's really easy but I chock it full of veggies to make it healthy.  I add mushrooms, diced tomatoes, zucchini, celery, carrots...yum!!

Whey protein shakes a couple of times a week provide a way to get a good protein-carb balance in the morning  I mix with milk and fruit, no sugar, for a healthy morning wake-up.  Whey is more digestible than soy protein.  I use frozen fruit so it's cold!!!

Hard boiled eggs are quick, easy and portable when you are on the go!

Some people find low-fat cheese a fine substitute, I am one of these. You will have to taste test brands to see what you like.

Sorbet is a great alternative to ice cream.  I love coconut sorbet!

Small changes are where we start.  I would love to hear some of the more talented sisters in the kitchen on how they manage healthy eating.

Easy Crockpot Italian Chicken:

Put the number of chicken breasts you need in the crockpot (I put them in frozen) and then put Italian salad dressing over the top.  You don't have to drench it, just enough to cover.  Turn the crockpot onto low and cook all day or high for 4-5 hours.

Serve with wide egg noodles or baked potato and broccoli.

This is SUPER easy for those busy days and it's one my family really likes.
